teceem: - I don't get the difference of accessibility between under the desk and on the desk. In my experience, it's (mostly) about the distance from the wall. Edit2: And the distance between the left side panel and any obstacles.
dtgreene: Don't forget that bending down is uncomfortable for many and not a reasonable option for some. In the blacked-out bedroom we have a full-HD smart television connected to my new (last year's model) laptop that I also use for gaming, in addition to the DVD player we use to watch over 700 movies, films and television series that we have accumulated over the last dozen years or so.

People have different priorities. I have a big computer desk in the living room, because I spend a lot of time at it and it's important to me.

Main Rig - This desk was made by my sister in law for my birthday many years ago. It's a custom standing/sitting desk with a hydraulic release to go up and down with a sunken desktop area that holds my KM+M along with two Cable Guy holders (Ryu and Chun-Li) holding two Logitech F310 controllers. It's like an overgrown arcade cab with satellite speaker platforms but I put the Cable Guys there instead. A custom clamp with a rectangle platform that swings out (meant for laptops) that holds 1 of my HORI RAP4 KAI Fight Stick. My desktop is a Cosmos 1000 on two painted wooden wine crates with SNK and Doom Guy (1993) stickers. I have 1 32 inch monitor dead center of the desktop area with a extended crane clamp. The desk is 275 lbs. Which is great for when I play arcade games with my Hori. Speakers are wall mounted with a sub woofer under the desk in the center.
I have a gaming chair but I do most of my playing standing. I have rubber gel mats similar to what chefs have.
Living Room HTPC - Custom 2.5 Ft by 2.5 Ft entertainment center cube (made in shop class many moons ago) holding a nested desktop in the center connected to a 50 inch non-smart TV. Under the TV is a holder for Logitech K400r. There are 2 Cable Guys (Black Widow and Hulk) holding Logitech F710s to the right and left of the TV that are resting on cylinder candle holders that I sanded down (got rid of the nib to stick candles on) to just hold them. Same speaker setup except the subwoofer is to the left a bit next to the center piece.
We have a long sofa and a love seat along with 2 Lazyboy recliners from the 90's. They are in great condition and I TLC them every couple of years.
Bed Room HTPC - Simple store bought entertainment center with 2 small drawers and a spot meant to hold a vcr or small console. It just holds a few POP toys. 40 inch non-smart TV with a NUC desktop mounted in the back. Same keyboard and same gamepads as the living room. The Cable Guys here are COD Specialist 1 and Specialist 2. Wall mounted speakers with sub woofer.
We have these triangle pillows with neck support for long sessions but we mostly play short games or watch something online when it's on.

teceem: I've always put my desktop computers on top of a desk. Since a couple of years, I've started cleaning it out (with a compressed air machine) every two years. Still, it's a chore and I try to minimize chores as much as I can. Desktop cases under a desk just come into contact with a lot more dust (from the floor).
Some people like cleanliness enough to clean their place* once or twice a week. Me, of course I don't mind it being super clean - but I really dislike chores - and they take time away from what I really like doing in the limited time I have on this earth.
*explanation: cleaner floors = cleaner PC on the floor
I also prefer the tower to sit on this desktop, rather than under it, since I cringe at the ambient colloidal dust that constitutes so much of the air. I keep the laptop lid closed and use a wireless keyboard and trackball in the bedroom, too, to minimize the sedimentary ventifaction. Some people like cleanliness enough to clean their place* once or twice a week. I'm still waiting on my cpu ordered in November (thanks scalpers and crypto-wankers!).
Waiting on getting the cpu for the desktop and then having a friend who does welding / metalwork make me something custom.
My laptop is on the dining table (the only table remotely high enough to accomodate me).

A picture is worth a thousand words. ;) That desk is nothing special - bought it on a clearance sale for $30-40 (?) at an Office Max - but it's solid, stable, and reliable enough it has served me well for over a decade now.

A 9010 tower sits next to me. My table is from Aldi and probably needs replaced for fixed. My monitor sits atop an old CRT monitor stand, before it sits my Model M, and my mouse is a Kensington Expert Trackball. I use a pair of tower speakers and a subwoofer for sound, but I may put those away. I also have a pair of headphones, but they're mostly for noise isolation.

Cluster-fuck. It not only describes my setup, it's also the word of the day! The tower used to be on the bottom. I don't think its supposed to be where it is now, but I moved it to give my rig better ventilation. It also used to be flipped around. I made the switch so I am better able to access the ports at the back.

Don't leave your PCs sitting on the floor guys, is just asking for a disaster to happen (and neither your multi socket plugs).

I use noise-reducing cable-connected earphones on the laptop. I can only look avariciously at the light, wireless exemplars, like Bose, when my ears are raw from a couple of hours' use. Some games are a little repetitive, though, so I take those moments to rest my battered ears, like the town area of Torchlight, or.the arial dogfights of (XCOM) Enemy Unkown, when I have to scumsave to keep my flotilla afloat.

Here's mine. ;-) The desk is temporary... my old one didn't survive the recent move.
