darthspudius: Well they are main quests, but it is really just the same thing with different characters. Apparently it is good story. I thought the side quests were more interesting. Some good vaults to see etc. Oh and the group of aliens. :D
Hm, I wouldn't say that New Vegas' main quest has a good story. If anything, it gives you just enough story to decide how you, the player, are going to fit into it. You have a very basic premise (the hunt for a mcguffin in what is soon to be a war zone) on which you can base the personality and skills of your player character. It's a rich scenario and the plot doesn't interfere with who I wish to be within that context, i.e. what kind of person.

That is one of the main reasons why I prefer NV, personally.

The build up to killing Chandler was fun but after that or the plot surrounding that was just... meh. I like the little stories that come with the vaults and dead traders etc. That kind of thing was all over FO3 too and I love it.

Hey! I did not say what happened to Rachel and Monica! Oooh yeah!

GR00T: And from all I've read, FO:NV is pretty much hands down a better game.
If what you wanted was a sequel for Fallout 3, you'd have reason to like it less. If what you wanted was a sequel to Fallout 2, but in the Fallout 3 engine, you'd have reason to like it more. I think it's as fair to prefer FO3 over NV as it is to prefer Oblivion over Skyrim; both pairs of games are good games, but personal preference will probably skew you heavily in favor of one or the other.

I will agree that some of the side quests or faction quest lines were among the best the game had to offer. Vault 11 in particular felt like the stuff of a good sci-fi short story from the 60s or 70s.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that one. I liked the one with all the plants. It was way more atmospheric than the outdoor scenery haha. *ahem* Gaaaary?!

darthspudius: For some reason I keep getting told this has good characters and a better story. But all I remember is endless glitches, bad dialogue, boring quests and so much sand! The whole thing lacked the personality of Fallout 3. Improved the gun play but that is about it.

Playable it is, but it nothing more than another add to Fallout 3. A badly made one.
I completely agree.

And it lacks all good music tracks.

Please, someone name me any particularly interesting NPC, quest, dialogue or location in Fallout NV.

Didn't like it then?
have both games. Any reason to play FO3 at all instead of FO NV ?

The music is great, IMO. It's just another genre (lots of swing and some country), and I love tracks like "Love me as though there were no tomorrow" and "In the Shadow of the Valley". I usually sing along. ;) Oh, and "Blue Moon". Can't beat Sinatra.

Interesting quests NPCs or locations? Vault 11 (as mentioned already), Benny, Ranger Chief Hanlon (and the quest "Return to Sender" which at first seems like one long fetch quest, until the final payoff....hooo boy, that staid with me for years), Big Mountain, The Sierra Madre Casino, Caesar, Camp Forlorn Hope, Gomorrha, the Ultraluxe. I could go on with this for a long time.

I know most of the FO3 soundtrack off by heart. Ink Spots, Andrews Sisters and Billie Holiday, wonderful stuff. As for naming characters, you got me there lol.

Play them both?

In my opinion Fallout: New Vegas is better than Fallout 3 in every single way than Fallout 3 except stability. Then again, I thought Fallout 3 was...well....A PIECE OF FALLOUT 3 BWAHAHAHAHA!

...But what do I know, I like Fallout: New Vegas therefore I am a blind fanboy...
