I an one of those people who got it direct from the dev in 2013 for $23 USD. I believe it was worth it as it is enjoyable to fly around. There is a caveant thpugh: until version 1.1 is out, if you want to use a lot of parts packs (want to launch a Saturn V using mods? You can), you have to run the game at the bare minimum for texture resolution. This game is rockets with legos and blowing up can be fun (you will blow up a lot while foguring out issues. Best part is buying from the dev directly is DRM free if you want to go that route

This is sure to start an argument ... KSP is also DRM free on steam.

Somehow I missed the reply...

I managed to land on Duna with Jebediah and 2 other Kerbals and managed to take off and go back home to Kerbin. Prior to that, I launched a fuel tank in orbit around Duna. Had to dock and refuel to get back to Kerbin. I have not made a rocket that can land on Duna and fly back home as yet. Think it requires a monster or a very efficient design.

I'm on a break from KSP atm, will go back anytime soon.

This game also interests me greatly, but I've not yet gotten. Definitely pretty high on my to-get list because it looks so cool, and I also am not into sim games either (well, combat/flight sims, but that is different). Actually, it sounds like they interest me less than they do the OP. I also figure it will be even better after it's been out a year+ and they fix/patch/update some of the stuff that I hear/think could be improved.

What I like about KSP is that the game doesn't punish you severely for mistakes but just gives you a nice nudge to try again. :-)
And if you loose patience with what you're doing you can always just horse around - which in my case means I build my version of a rocket car and race around the space center. :-D

does career mode have save games? That actually interests me a lot more than sandbox mode, just my playstyle preference.

Everything has saves, both auto and manual. That as one of my first concerns when I got it. You may spend hours building the perfect rocket only to have one small detail get by; well it's a lot easier to just go in and fix that bug rather than have to start over from scratch. The game is very cognizant of that.

NO! XD Play around with Science Mode 1st! You jump into career mode and your head will explode. You need to learn how to crawl before you can learn how to walk. :P

That's like the tutorial mode right? Or is that the sandbox mode? I definitely like tutorials for games that are complex in their mechanics/unique (omg the tutorials and intricacies for AI Wars still rattle my brains.)

It's both. There are tutorials but they are basically brief outlines. There are countless ways to build ships, your imagination is the only limit, which the Tutorials really don't help with. What I recommend is you play one or two of the tutorials 1st and then go into Sandbox and just mess around. Try anything and everything. Your rocket may not look or function anything like mine but it may be just as good or better and it's up to you come up with your own style.

After a while you'll get good and understanding how building works, and then you can work on flight, and then orbit and then leaving orbit. There are separate Tutorials for all of these but take it at your own pace. Don't check out the orbit tutorial if you can even get off the ground, know what I mean? :P

Yep yep, thanks!!! I looked at a bit of the tutorials on youtube some time ago to get a sense if I'd actually like the game/if it seemed TOO complex to me, and while it seems hard, it seems learnable if you take it slowly and, quite aweseome once you start to master it all.
