zeogold: How the blazes do you SMOKE that?!

Wait, on second thought, I don't want to know.

I like to use a bong with a double filtration system (a ash-catcher percolater with water and then the bong itself), the smoke gets filtered 2 times. I also like to use a vaporizer. Health is important to me and I've found that I am more wheezy after 1 night by the campfire than I am after 18 years of smoking weed from bongs for the most part.

alcohol is MUCH MUCH worse for you, and everyone else...

as is probably the food most people eat...

and living in the smog-infested cities they live in...

and drinking the fluoridated water of their municipality...

and using shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc., chemicals abundant that the skin absorbs and puts into the bloodstream in 26seconds

hedwards: TBH, by the time you're smoking the crap in the pipe the materials that the pipe is made from doesn't make much difference.
well, when talking about weed...yes, there is a HUGE difference, actually, especially considering how you ingest it
avatar
hedwards: That being said, aluminum is terrible for you. There's a reason why aluminum cans are typically coated with plastic these days.
avatar
budejovice: I would like to point out that aluminum is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust and that aluminum is found in a huge amount of consumer products, including cosmetics and baking powder, and non-consumer products like water and that everyone who ever lived consumed measurable amounts of aluminum everyday.

Breathe deep people. Don't panic. The world is out to get you and the world will win.
just because in it is products doesn't mean a damn thing, actually, other than that the companies making the shit don't care about the consumer, they just care about making money and perpetuating their industries

Emob78: And here I thought I was trending something new. Everyone's vaping these days, they said. Want to be original? Smoke a pipe, they said.

Very relaxing. Also a bit more time consuming. Scrape out the screens, clean the nozzle and pipe, load the pipe carefully and don't pack too hard. Yes, we smokers love those rituals.
I don't like the modern vaporizers other than the Volcano. Nothing hits big enough for me and a lot of them are shady in how they operate or what you put in them (a lot of them just use dabs or hash-oil, which I believe to be unhealthy because of how they are processed). I love the ritual of packing the slider for the bong, prepping the bong, etc., and it is very much meditative for me.

Even under a best case scenario, you're still inhaling carbon monoxide and various toxic chemicals. People choose to pretend like the burden of proof is on the people who oppose pot, but the burden of proof is always on the people who are advocating for ingesting unknown substances.

and studies

and evidence to support (lots of pot-only smokers of 40+ years with no lung issues, etc.)

with my 18 years experience and having smoked joints, blunts, pipes, bongs of many varieties, vaporizers of many varieties, I can tell you there is an absolute difference on lung-impact depending on how you smoke (and the quality of the herb, too)

CARRiON.FLOWERS: Nowadays I flipped it around and enjoy tobacco more so maybe I should consider a pipe again?
A pipe is the best tobacco experience you're going to have, imho. And owning it, using it, taking care of it will actually help you relax. It's a very calming ritual. It's not for smokers-on-the-go, but rather for people that just want to chill and enjoy a puff.
avatar
CARRiON.FLOWERS: most people do unhealthy things or have bad habits. Smoking, chewing, drugs, alcohol, unhealthy food, lack of exercise, drink too much soda or coffee, eat too much spicy foods...
I do all of the above. :)
avatar
amrit9037: What made you to start it again after eight years?
Just don't get addicted to it again.
I don't get addicted to anything. Excellent genes (of course).
Well, I got bored of it, frankly. And since I'm not a fanatic smoker, I put it away. Then I couldn't find it. Then I couldn't care enough to get a new one. Eight years later, I had too much time in my hands, and there you go. :)

Lots of other factors as well. Diet, exercise, lifestyle, genetics, amount of smoke inhaled, frequency of smoking, even the location and air quality where the smoking takes place. Then again, we're also breathing in highly charged particles and carcinogens in the air every time we inhale.

*I also find it amusing that you can't even have a friendly chat about pipes on a message forum any more without it turning into a political fight over smoking. Internet, you sure know how to buzzkill a party.*
I've been smoking pipe since I was 18 years old with big breaks (weeks, months, years) in between.
I only do this when I got some time to really relax and read a book in the park or make a big break in the workshop.

I got a custom combination of a cheap head made from a nice bruyère with strawberry shaped bottom and a long Stanwell mouthpiece for reading that did fit the shape quite well, my seller widened the plug area of the head for me so that it fits perfectly:

And an expensive one from Vauen for three people at once (shisha style but not shisha) which sadly is never used:

Tried all kinds of tobaccos, began with Rattrays's Marlin Flake, really liked Larssen 1864, some others and mostly went back to Dannemann Sweet Mango time and again.

I'm using active coal filters and pipe cleaners from Vauen since all the others I tried weren't very good.

My colleagues say that I'm the perfect traditional artisan when sitting in the workshop with my beard between my creations and smoking a pipe while reading Jules Verne although all those things didn't start at the same time by far, I just like this stuff. Having studied philosophy doesn't do much against this stereotype...

I smoked from time to time, but I stopped after I had a pneumothorax, my right lung collapsed. :/

I´m even getting paranoid if someone is smoking near me. :P

I tried the Savinelli Balsa wood filters and let me tell you, if they fit your pipe, they're going to give you the smoothest smoke ever.
