Hmmm...

I know one of my routers i had had a log option which let me see the last 200 requests from the network... You might look into that, or a packet sniffer for your network to see what packets are being sent as well as their content...

As a note, it's possible your computer is part of a bot-net. I watched not too long ago how people's computers can be incorporated into a bot-net using javascript, and using a proxy server which injects new javascript code during download when it recognizes files. So...

First, disconnect from the internet. (Physically or ipconfig /release or something)

Second disable Javascript and flash from your browsers, There's an exploit using Flash that involves loading a font which uses the font manager to get root privileges and then can do anything. Apparently any web page can also do this if your browser auto-downloads any listed fonts, so manually made fonts to do specific attacks can do stuff.

Third, clear the cache on all your browsers. Possibly all offline data/files too. Afterwards restart them.

Fourth consider a packet sniffer and go through what ip addresses are being accessed. it involves commandline access or writing to a file, and this file can get very very very big depending on who much traffic you have.

Thank you! Will do. It will take a while though, because i am unfamiliar with all those terms, will have to google them out and research on them, too... Strange, though, that my antimalware, anti rootkit, antivirus etc stuff i have up and running, always detect nothing, oh damn.

The only thing i could find is this: https://www.virustotal.com/en/domain/mtrx.go.sonobi.com/information/

And once again, one of the webpages i clearly saw flashing through there, was of that specific university, from which the professor, the energy meter and my past enemies work in.

And something about GODADDY and USA that doesn't make any sense to me.

Shall i throw money to DLP software, just in case?

And as a free legal sniffer tool, you can use www.wireshark.org, don't be afraid to ask ;)

CMOT70: Regarding those Smart Meters, we've had them here for quite few (at least 4 years now), the exact ones in the video. They were not an option, it was installed by the power company. Though, at the moment the remote reading feature (where they can access your info back at base) is not working and they still have to be "read" by a real person walking door to door like always. He has a handheld device that downloads the stored data. The meter has a bluetooth output as well, so that you can monitor your own power use habits...as can anyone else in range. Pretty useful for working out who is using growing lamps for...hydroponics and stuff.

Experiments like this often happen in Australia first, as they can judge the reactions in a smaller less volatile market. If it causes rioting in the streets, then they know not to move it to the bigger markets like the USA where everyone has guns.

And yes, potentially they could be used for dodgy purposes. But so far the real reason is for the power companies to charge more. It allows them to apply, say, double rates during peak times for power, So before the flat rate was say 19cents/kW, now peak is 32cents/kW whilst early morning off peak is 18 cents/kW. They also measure and record actual power that i put back to the grid (solar). So the main reason so far is simply the same one as always- make more money...or else why would the power companies spend millions doing it? Sale of power here is privatized.
yea they did it in canada too, and it wasnt a choice

HereForTheBeer: This is something that COULD happen. But it's currently not, even with the newest meters. For the details to occur as the video posits, each device / appliance would need a digital identifier and some sort of networking hardware. Pretty sure my stove doesn't have that, nor my desk lamp, nor the garage door opener. So a smart meter will tell the power company that SOMEthing is occurring to cause 1.2 kW of consumption right now at this address, and they can make an educated guess based on the time of day, weather conditions, calendar date, etc., but they can't say with specificity what it is I'm doing with that power - at least not with today's smart meter.
Ever heard of MAC-address?

fr33kSh0w2012: I live in Australia I can confirm this they just came 4 years ago and installed it Makes your electricity bils WAY MORE EXPENSIVE
avatar
rtcvb32: I'm suddenly reminded, back when i lived in a nearby town. The electrical billing was a little weird, because they had one entry for charging you per watt... Then they had a second entry that cost more that was a 'delivery charge'... Your electrical bill was almost always $200 or more.
My last electricity bill was $2090.13 I swear in Australia the electricity companies charge what ever the hell they like!

OK, did you know that quite a lot of devices can be followed up back to the producer upon your MAC address?

Yea, it seems electricity companies are out of control, these days. They know you NEED electricity so they know you will pay whatever they want you to pay. if only there was such a thing as hamster powered electricity. :P

Get RAPED financially by money hungry corporations while having to look out for spiders and other wild life that can kill a person with one bite. :P Australia sounds like Salusa Secundus. :P

Yes.

The most connected device you have in your home, presumably your PC, is likely not able to tell the power company anything about you - even the simple status of it being turned on or off - via the smart meter. The rare exception might be for those people using power line networking. To do so requires hardware beyond that which already appears in the overwhelming majority of electrical / electronic products on the market today. Or it requires the willing installation of a network connection between your devices and the meter. In other words, unless your devices are able - and set-up - to provide MAC address or other identifying info to the meter, there is nothing to worry about from the simple installation of a smart meter.

For certain, the meter isn't telling the power company that you're brushing your teeth. If they want that info about someone, the power company simply needs to check facebook status updates. ; )

If i got a bill like that i'd give the middle finger and go full time bush-crafting. I have enough money to last me for years on just survival supplies, food and other resources i can get from the wild.

Or maybe i'd be like Robin Speronsis and unhook all non-essentials from my house and live in tune with nature... in them middle of town. All i'd need is probably a 1000 gallon container to collect water when it rains, and pre-fill it before turning the water off, get some good water purifiers.. Hell, i know we have a few trees that need to come down and plenty of bio-fuel i can make for super cheap, as in free...

OK, as we are talking about the usual home network, not using subnets, this means that all devices can see each other. If you have your TV connected to it, the meter could see it, same for the fridge and whatever. Any device connected to the network can be seen.

And as far as I understood, that is what is happening. Having the power meter connected to the LAN. Please correct me, if I misunderstood it. If it is not connected, it would not apply.

And no power line network is a different kind of Pandora-Box. And too use it, is a rather bad idea! You can receive this signal much further away as you would believe! Just think of DSL, up to 8 km away....That is why I only suggest cable connections.
