It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Connor94: Just got Baldur's Gate enhanced edition. The download is 40kb/s. I am so disappointed. It way my first time using GOG.
I would really like to give them another shot but seriously, for a 2 gig download that would be done in 20 min on steam why am I bothering. I feel like I just wasted money uggh.
Are you using Galaxy to download? Galaxy is still in Beta, I wouldn't use it other than for simply trying it out. Try downloading the game with your browser. If the speed is still abysmal than the problem must be on your end or somewhere between you and GOG.

I can download 2 GB in 2-3 minutes from GOG's servers so they are not the problem.
I downloaded a few games with Galaxy yesterday, and also without Galaxy (using the normal links on the game page on gog.com) and I always got a constant 12 MB/s as fast as my line can deliver.

And that's to an island in the middle of the Atlantic.
Galaxy works fine for me (5-7MB), but i do have better speed in the browser (limited only by my old hard drive, that can't handle speeds higher than 10MB).

But again, my backwater country has a cheap and awesome internet (at least for now) since time immemorial.
Yeah I don't recall ever seeing that bad download speeds from GOG ever, unless there was some problem with my ISP or the local WiFi connection (but then all downloads would be affected, not only GOG). This weekend I downloaded around 30 GB worth of GOG games (updates to existing ones, and some new ones I've bought recently), and they came at full 10MBit/s that my cable modem can muster. I don't use the Galaxy but the gogrepo.py tool, which I think is the same as downloading with the web links directly.

The worst I've seen from GOG is that occasionally some downloads seem to be locked to 400kbit/s or so, but that doesn't matter much to me if I am downloading several GOG files at the same time, as each of them would then be 400kbit/s so they add up quickly, and some are not speed locked but use all available bandwidth. EDIT: Actually I think it is 400 kbytes/sec, not kbits... Careful with those, they get easily mixed up.

I haven't found any patters to those locked speeds, they just sometimes happen. I don't know if it is related to me downloading many files in succession (I don't recall it ever happening if I am downloading only one game from GOG), and sometimes if I merely cancel the speed-limited download and restart it, it comes with full speed. I presume the download servers just sometimes decide to put a limit to the speed.

It would be interesting to know why some seem to have these GOG-specific download problems (40kb/s and such), at least those not in China. Why some seem to have the problem constantly, while some like me never see it?

Well im in Australia, so maybe that has something to do with it. I was using the downloader which helped the download a bit and then used the Galaxy which helped the download a lot. It ended up being around 200kb/s and I left it overnight.
400 KB/sec while downloading. Anyone else having this kind of problem?

Hanabikiki: I seriously envy all of you. I just joined and I'm downloading at 20-30 Kb/sec.
Thank goodness it's an old game and not too heavy, but it's still going to take at least 24hours to complete this download, it's absolutely and totally unacceptable.

I generally always can max out my Internet connection to GOG at 3.7MB/s which is roughly 100 times faster than the OP so something's definitely wrong either on GOG's CDN in Italy, at his ISP, or on his home Internet connection I would think. There are times when it slows down such as busy sales or the odd Internet glitch, but nothing sustained for very long.

TL;DR - Try using a VPN if you have one! Worked for me (using PIA).

---------------------------------

To anyone having issues with terrible download speeds, try connecting to a VPN in a nearby country.

I live in Perth, Australia and was getting about 10KB/s - so roughly 100 seconds to download one MB. This was using browser download, not Galaxy client.

I tried Galaxy client and same issue - it actually timed out and said server error.

I happen to have a subscription to PIA - a VPN service. I connected mine (to overseas Singapore server) and tried again...

BOOM - downloading at 1 to 1.3 megabytes per second.

Who can say why? Could be ISPs intentionally or accidentally killing speeds to GOG servers. Hard to say.

Whatever the reason, if you are having these issues try signing up to a VPN service or borrowing a friend's. PIA is pretty cheap, about $30 a year IIRC, and this is not the first time I've noticed a particular site loading faster via an overseas VPN than "direct" from my ISP.

Yeah download speeds are ridiculous. As slow at 14kbs. This is unacceptable.

I only average about 60 on a good day so 14 isn't so bad.
Any solutions?
I don't have any problems. I just downloaded around 30 GB within the last hour.

IronArcturus: Is anyone else having really slow download issues with GOG lately? It's only downloading games at around 100KB/sec or less. It used to be able to download at about 1-2MB/sec. I checked my connection and the diagnostic tests said everything was ok on my side. Is GOG doing some kind of server maintenance?
If i had known how slow the d/l speeds are, I wouldn't have purchased. Absolutely hopelss. Never again GOG!

Tried this suggestion, but VPN made no discernible difference > after 24 hours the d/l sppeed has seen a max of .6 MB/s, but mainly .4 MB/S.
Will not buy from GOG again!

I have now been downloading witcher 3 for 3days and only 25GB of 34GB is complete. Absolutrely ridiculous!

I hate thread necromancy... but I can't believe that no one had that issue in over a year?

I am sitting here, trying to download the Galaxy Downloader - at 30-50KB/s ...

And no, it's not my ISP (download speeds per speedtest: 32 MB/s, upload 10MB/s

I AM in Australia and I know in general our internet sucks. If I ping gog.com it comes around at 341ms. But still... I'm talking KB/s download speeds. That is... almost comical. I mean, if I had set up a 58.8k dial up modem, I'd get faster speeds... beep di bop di beep beep beeeeeeeeep.
