Hello there,

Just curious if this is the norm. I know the game is not out for the next 6 days (witcher3), however at the current download rate it will take just about that long for it to pre-download. It has been about 20 minutes already and I am sitting at 0.3%. I decided to try something different with GOG, but whoa.. is this really going to be the norm on installations? or is this just a beta thing? My connection is far better than most and my PC is pretty state of the art. Information and advice is welcome.

Kind regards,
skoochis

No, that's definitely not the norm. I always had fast download rates even without using the official downloader which should have higher download speeds. Can't say anything about Galaxy, though.
You could try downloading another game to see if that's faster.
If the issue doesn't resolve itself then you should contact support. :)

Thanks for the link and information above. I have tried to stop and restart the install, but to no avail. It must be something on their side. It can't be me.

I will try the little things.. like minimizing the windows and such.. otherwise, hopefully this will change in the future.

Thanks again.

I think it's because of the Witcher 3 preload. Too many users at the same time downloading it. Pillars of Eternity didn't had these problems at launch so I guess the load must be tenfold.

If you're still having trouble with the downloads, try downloading with the old GOG downloader program, or directly via the browser. Apparently others got much better transfer speeds that way.

It's probably a mix of their servers being overburdened by all the simultaneous downloads, and some hick-ups with the Galaxy client, since it's still in Beta.

Good luck with the downloads, and have fun with Witcher 3.
this is the norn around here

You seem to be using galaxy. Did you try to download the installer from the website? That is always very fast.
I'm using Galaxy since beginning. My usual download speed is about 4.3 MB/s..
I think you get slow The Witcher download because everyone trying to download through Galaxy. Try downloading offline installer from extras.

okay, so once I removed the install folder from the GOG folder, rerouted the settings to the new folder, aborted the install, closed the entire app and then checked taskmanager to make sure it was not running.. I restarted it and now it just started downloading on its own.

Downloading now at 16MB/s

That is exceptionally better at least..

Installation Completed..

24GB / 24GB

Queued .....

Does this mean it is ready to play when it becomes available? Just want to get the lingo down..

Kind regards,

Not sure what it is doing now.. Now it is doing a 25GB or 50GB install

Boy they really need to fix these things..

Knowing your installation and drive is most important.. This GOG downloaded the program twice, once to completion and another one after install was started.. Wow.. what a pain..

What I did was find the full download folder.. Install it to the folder I specified in the configuration settings within GOG.. Then installed to a new folder on my D drive under the GAMES folder, keeping the name of the folder it suggested.

Then I went back and deleted the download! folder that GOG made with the other 25GB download.

I ran the setup from the full download folder manually.. and then reopened up GOG, and now it shows

Not Yet Played, Installed and a timer for 5 days till I can play it.

It states the last little piece has to be downloaded on Game Day. So we will have to wait to see if it ends up working properly, getting updates and tracking achievements.

I will give an update when I know for sure.

Kind regards,
skoochis

Download speed for GOG is slow, my Charter speed is measuring over 60mb/sec and download speed from GOG for Witcher 3 is only 7.3Mb/sec, most other sites I would already be playing the game. Don't think I will buy from GOG again.

Please do remember that there's a difference between megabytes per second and megabits per second. Assuming that the benchmark of 60mb/s is megabits (they virtually always are), your real download speed is 60/8=7.5MB/s (megabytes). This is consistent with your browser's report of the download speed, as browsers report speeds in megabytes per second.

If your downloading by galaxy, I am led to believe it is the full non compressed version which is huge. Goto the web page and your account and download the installers (not sure if you can do this in galaxy as I don't use it). Download the exe, bin files and patches, they will be far smaller, and then install from them. You can also keep those files as a backup or burn to cd etc. W3 is a big download either way, but at least compressed installers are smaller.
