I'll keep it short and sweet. Steam/epic/battle.net/etc etc etc have been frustrating me and I feel like gog deserves my money more than they do. I have high hopes for galaxy 2.0 and have signed up for the beta. But since I am new here I am looking for some friends to play with so please add me and maybe we can game together.

Also since I'm already in here does anyone have recommendations of games to get? I know gog has some older titles and titles that may not have as much visability on other sites because they get buried.

well narrowing it down is really tough for me, I'll play literally any genre as long as it's a decent game. But lately i've been mostly into roguelikes, platformers, metroidvanias and adventure games.

Games along the lines of enter the gungeon, gato robo, witcher

Welcome to GOG! ^_^ If you haven't already played them I highly recommend these classics:
Master of Magic (An excellent single player turn based strategy game.)
Ultima Underworld 1 + 2 (Two first person RPGs that are often imitated but rarely if ever equalled.)

Also don't forget that Tyrian 2000 is free on GOG, so give it a try. Enter the Gungeon is one of the best modern indie games!

Just its existence gives me hope that we'll see more quality games created that can rival the classics.

When you say "adventure games", do you mean point&clicks or the generic "adventure" tag?

As for metroidvanias, Bloodstained is a fairly new one. Supraland also got here recently.
Platformers aren't really my thing, but GOG has some classics like Psychonauts and the original Tomb Raider series which are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

I believe that most of these games are using DOSBox to run on modern machines, so as long as you have an interest in DOS-Era games they may be worth a look.

Since you mentioned metroidvanias I should point out that " Treasure Adventure Game " (Oddly it is a game with the word Game in the title. XD) is free on GOG and the reviews emphasize that it is an exploration based metroidvania game.

Haven't played Treasure Adventure Game myself, but many people do seem to like it.


If you're looking for a 3D Metroidvania game and don't mind something a little weird, the one I'd personally recommend is:
Shadow Man.

The ambiance and voice acting really take that one to another level.

I highly encourage you to make sure to download a back-up of any game you buy. It comes with the installation file so if GoG ever shuts down you'll still have any game you bought.

As far as I know all the other services force you to install from the server only. So if they shutdown then the games you bought there are probably gone.

Although I can't really say I've played or spent much time with some of those I tried to do what I can to pick out games that were popular or seem would appeal to most people .

Most of Falcom's stuff is good too, and for recent games that have ended up drm free there's Darksiders, Bioshock, XCOM hey they're actually currently on sale.

Not that I necessarily disagree but if I may ask, why do those other sites frustrate you?

Just asking because I have academic interest in why people prefer GOG.com. I'm gathering statistics about this, asking all the people on the world that same question, one by one.

You happen to be the first one I've asked, so according to my current statistics, 100% of the people are frustrated by Steam/epic/battle/etc.
