You're right, but to be fair to GoG, they probably don't want to suffer the user backlash that a German-law compliant age verification system would cause (I know you could restrict it to IP addresses physically located in Germany, but it's still likely to cause some upset with the way this community reacts). Plus, additional sales revenue is unlikely to offset the cost of running the system - especially as most German customers are likely to work around the current restrictions.

I don't actually blame GOG - I understand them. It's simply too much costs and effort and most digital stores not located in Germany don't have such an age verification program. When I said the "problem" sits in Poland I was more focusing in how the German laws are working and not that GOG made a stupid decision.

Probably the most interesting thing during my school trip to Bonn - showing my age, as that was before the capitol was re-relocated back to Berlin - in my 10th grade was visiting the BPJM offices and them showing us an example reel of all the games they blacklisted back then. The violence in mid-'90s video games is positively quaint in comparison what can be found in games today - even at the time I found pretty much all of it comically unrealistic.

Huh. That's... interesting. Doesn't China have a thing against showing gore and people dying in video games? Last I checked, there's an awful lot of that happening in Sleeping Dogs, especially when it comes to some of the environmental finishers.

The Chinese government rarely has a problem with gore or death in games, but of course there's a limit. Their big problem is political statements or anything that might be construed as negatively portraying China. If you do that you will definitely run into trouble.

Virtually all games on GOG and Steam are available in China. Steam is in fact extrememly popular here. I'm trying to educate people about GOG and I think I have substantially increased GOG's business in China. They really ought to pay me for it. The only times I have found games not available in China is usually because of distribution rights. I noticed that Biped which was made by a Chinese company is not available on GOG in China, but curiously is available on Steam.

Good idea. But BEWARE! There are exceptions to the rule. In the case of Soldier of Fortune Payback (which is legit banned for realz in Germany), the game in question is so irredeemably awful that the government confiscating and destroying all copies might have done the public a great service.

Again, it is basically GOGs decision that it is not available on GOG in Germany - it has nothing to do with German laws that have banned the game. Germany only restricts certain games based on age and not for everyone. That's what I wanted to say. Germany does not ban things completely - China does.

Not completely true. It isn't allowed to be sold in Germany but you are still allowed to import it from elsewhere as long as you only use it for yourself.
