Starkrun: This is the same argument for Fallout 4.. though they have finalized it as much and only release Creator Club content, sparingly. That game is dead while Skyrim is still going strong in other consoles, VR, and the mod community.

StingingVelvet: So many conversations within Bethesda about how to make sure Starfield is Skyrim and not Fallout 4. Wonder what they think the key is.
Skyrim is very welcoming and you can be anyone you want easily.... F4 is a shoe horned experience with nothing to offer past a few experiences... its not new or fun after you run it once... I have a copy of Skyrim on 2 consoles my PC and VR edition and still enjoy it as i can be whatever i want. That said its all about the MODS... without a solid modding community you're dead in the water.

ZyloxDragon: Yeah, once the Creation Club started coming about, and kept me from running my modded game due to the Script Extender not working, I rolled back, and disabled all automatic updates on those games. As far as I could tell back then, all it did was want me to spend money rather than fixing bugs that were still present. I'm assuming it's still the same thing now.
The biggest patches are baked in mods from CC, its a damn shame, the other then the survival mod (which should have been a content patch) they are all pretty much crap.

Yeah the intro... you fight against enemies and all their equipment disappears because it was all bound... A awesome katana you can't keep. And enemies are actually 5x to 10x harder outside the tutorial area.

Patrick Stewart was a nice charming bit; Although him dying immediately made you wonder.. why even have him, unless hiring him was fairly cheap, or maybe he was considering doing more voiceover work. (Then again, Patrick probably enjoyed it because it was not Star Trek and he didn't have to be Captain Picard, so it was probably a nice break from the main role he had).

Oh right, yeah that started off pretty cool and epic. Plus the flying around the main capital too showing off the graphical engine and upgrades.

Falls apart when you start seeing up close faces and character creation and every face feels ugly. :P

wasnt Skyrim and also Civ V rumoured to be coming here (well ok based on someone finding something online about GOG wasnt it?)

I can see Civ5 coming because X-Com did. Skyrim I don't see happening because of the creation club stuff and Bethesda not releasing much here since their initial slate.

Isn't there sort of a pattern/cycle of different AAA publishers releasing games every few years (since GOG still has difficulty getting their attention)? We didn't get any Focus Home published games since 2013-14 or so, now they've started releasing them again. We haven't seen any EA, Ubi, Square Enix games in a few years either but more could show up.

However the Creation Club stuff could be an issue, and of course DRM.

I don't think it's an expected cycle or anything, GOG just managed to get Focus' attention. Maybe someday they'll get Bethesda's attention and we'll get some moderately old stuff like Dishonored, Skyrim and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that Bethesda probably doesn't think it's worth the bother and maybe GOG doesn't either. People always blame the publisher but I bet GOG tries harder to get some stuff than others. I can't imaging stuff that's been on Steam for literally almost a decade sells very well here, though I could be wrong. I wonder how much Bioshock: Infinite sold, for example. I know I'm not re-buying it until it's like $5.

They COULD release Oldrim (Skyrim Legendary Edition - pre SE) - it IS still for sale on Steam IIRC - but hidden... or available on physical media (an empty box with a Steam CD key...?)...

Of course... they won't... ><

I'm sure Bethesda doesn't care very much, a GOG release would probably be chump change to them unfortunately; however I'm pretty sure GOG does think bringing Skyrim, specifically, is worth it. I imagine (and I could be wrong of course) it'd sell gangbusters compared to much of the indie games releasing despite so many people already owning copies. (And GOG has been bringing semi-old stuff like Call of Juarez and Focus Home titles.) Maybe GOG is waiting for Galaxy 2 to have something like Steam Workshop (because Skyrim has tons of mods, right?) or some other features they consider important, but I'm pretty doubtful they wouldn't love to have Skyrim, I think in part because it's already sold so well elsewhere.

True, but one could say the same about WOW and the level of detail/"awesome factor" of it's commercials/cutscenes vs the game itself in some cases.

Eh, Gog's entire original business model thrived on mainly people rebuying old games from more than a decade ago, and for sometimes more than 5 dollars. ;)

Maybe. Oblivion was hitting a brick wall with the uncanny valley. Skyrim was much better and while it isn't 'real', it feels enough you can let it go.

WoW and PS2 level games, you see the limits and accept them, as the graphics are not 100% of the product. Though upgrading models/textures over time would be fine. Were it an open game you know tons of artists would have had replacement texture packs

Releases lately has been awesome, IMO.
There were Trine 4, new Yooka Laylee, Indivisible, Valfaris, Blasphaemus, Stygian, Crying Suns... and Dusk, plus others, smaller indies.
I think it's underestimate to ignore indies, although I can agree indie games tend to look for inspiration in other successful indies, resulting in many looking the same and stale.
it's just matter of taste, somebody prefers Skyrim, somebody prefers Indivisible.

regarding the expectation of thinking there's Skyrim in the works:
the user who published the post that he find info about Skyrim coming here (in unofficially coming games thread) never backed his claim, and wasn't The-Business, who usually scoops reliable info right from store by searching the catalogue. Therefore, it's probably never supposed to come here in first place.
