Some Christmas holidays I spend with a handful of close friends, most of which live outside of my city. But every now and then, I spend Christmas alone, as I will this year. And during such holidays, I love to watch Mr Bean's Christmas TV Special!

As a single guy living by myself, I can relate to his situation and it makes me feel good watching him enjoy his solitude. I look nothing like him, but I share his goofiness, his crazy antics, and his awkward interactions with the world. Makes me laugh even though I've watched it many times.

One of my favorite films for this season Is Rudolphs Shiny New Year.

In it, the baby new year goes missing, and it's up to Rudolph to set things right while there's still time. Some great songs and scenes and characters make for a cherished bit of nostalgia for me. :) (Spoiler alert: Video shows the ending of the movie)

Not something I love, but definitely something I watch every year, with a special place reserved for it in hell (or my heart? the jury's still out): My christmases have been transformed ever since I acquired myself some German relations. Twenty different types of cookies fresh from the oven sounds like it'd be quite survivable, but their goodness is offset by the national German torture pastime called "Drei Haselnuesse fuer Aschenbroedel". It's a cinderella story, made in the early seventies as an East German / Czech production. It's every bit as cringeworthy as that'd make you think, with the most annoying catchy theme song - and all of current day Germany is absolutely in love with it. It'll be shown on German television stations every other day in the week around christmas (not an exaggeration! and at least three showings on christmas eve itself), with showings continuing until they're capped off at New Year's with "Dinner for One" (another bizarre tradition), and random groups of strangers at their christmas markets will randomly start 'singing' that theme music.

The worst part of it is, after a few years of exposure, I can't quite see anymore why exactly I hated this movie this badly... *wanders off in confusion, humming "naa-naa-na-na-na-na-naa-na-na-naaaa" under his breath*

Favourite Radio : Probably The Goon Show. Came out decades before I was born, it had the most ludicrous plots and surreal sense of humour and was cited as a major influence by several of the Monty Python cast.

Favourite Movie : I loved the animated ones more than the Live Action stuff. The Snowman and The Nightmare Before Christmas were always part of Christmas TV growing up.

Favourite TV : The Wallace & Gromit (claymation) specials always came out at Christmas (they're definitely not just for kids and I still watch them every year today). The Grand Adventures game was actually sold here on GOG for a while (before it sadly went "out of rights" everywhere), but they clearly made enough of an impact that it's been my permanent GOG avatar for all these years. :-)

this movie has the concentrated Christmas spirit with all the wonders and people being nice... alongside with dirty backstreets (not only geographically speaking here) and an ugly face of the contemporary society.

Here in Hungary TV channels always showed Die Hard and Home Alone each year, and these became most of our go-to movies for Christmas. Lately, my bro watches How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so I watch that too sometimes.

And for TV specials it has to be the Star Wars Holiday special, it is so bad you can't stop watching it, especially as a classic SW fan.

Oh, and the best part of Christmas other than family is lots of Tea with cookies :P

Favorite Christmas TV show? I don't really have one, maybe because the regional shows have a special episode for Christmas so I usually watch that.

One thing I REALLY miss is the Church show where they show the story of Jesus in the dark using glowing gloves. It's really beautiful....

I like to watch the Gremlins movies during Christmas, because it's probably one of the few "horror" movies that can be watched by adults and kids in the same time. Gizmo is too cute and gremlins are memorable monsters. 3 decades later, those animatronic puppets are still credible and more impressive than 3D creatures of current movies (Ninja Turtles or Sonic, if you hear me...).
I can't wait to see Gremlins 3, which is now in production !

Even if they are not Christmas movies, I also like to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy because it was a tradition during Christmas Holidays for 3 years back in 2001 and it was a better period in my life than now.

In Poland it has become a tradition (and also a subject of jokes and memes) that main TV channels shows Home Alone every Christmas. No Christmas without Kevin in Poland :D Does it work the same in Russia perhaps?
As I don't have traditional TV for over a dozen years, I haven't watched the movie for years. But last year we wanted to show the classic to our kids and we made cinema evening before Christmas. And you know – it was awesome! :D I remembered watching it in childhood, but it's still so good! This year we should definitely make the same with HA2. I forgot about Die Hard! This indeed is perfect for Christmas. I have to refresh the movie this year, thanks!
By the way – that's interesting how many movies tries to catch that theme and specific atmosphere of the year and how few of them really suceed.

My wife and I always enjoy watching the Muppet's Christmas Carol, since I introduced her to it about years ago. It's nice to make new "traditions". As for music, I fall back on Narada's Nutcracker Suite, and George Winston's December and Winter Solstice series. My father introduced me to them, and since he passed, it's a poignant reminder for me.
Probably once a year, we do hit "The Family Stone", but not necessarily at Christmas. Two months ago, my mom found out she's Stage 3, so I don't think I can manage it this Christmas, but it's always been an enjoyable one for us to watch.

And what a fine tradition it is!

I will go with the Doctor Who Christmas specials, I find it amusing to see the show returning during the holidays, while in my country all things TV basically stop for two weeks (there's not even the football league). My favorite one is The Next Doctor in the David Tennant era, guest starring David Morrissey.

Since not many people are bringing up radio shows, I would like to mention the one that I never miss: the live broadcasting of the Christmas Lottery (which lasts several hours). That's a huge Christmas tradiition in Spain. It's more of a social event as you usually share a ticket/number with family, friends at even work colleagues. I am usually at work that day so I put my headphones on and just wait for the disappointment when my number doesn't win. ;)
