skimmie: That.is.awesome.
By the way! There's a whole album of Heavy Metal Cristams songs, with some of my absolute favourite artists, like the one and only Dio.

Do you watch those cheap but numerous Christmas romances on TV ? I heard it was a genre and an industry by itself and were produced in Summer (with fake snow...) to be released for the end of the year.

Dogmaus: See No Evil, Hear No Evil was a typical Christmas movie on Italian TV as well, and the Valley of Dinosaurs. Every damn Christmas. I could watch it twice but come on! I like to watch new stuff unless I'm really into it.

URGG, my mum watch them, so we all have to watch them.

A single look at the covers/poster of those can give you a perfectly clear picture what fake-galore lies beneath and that you should stay miles away. xD
I don't know how could I have forgotten about 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence'. Ok, it isn't about Christmas necessarily but nonetheless, the title serves as a bit of an excuse to recommend a great movie. David Bowie, Takeshi Kitano, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. It's really top of the pops.

Someone already mentioned 'The Nightmare before Christmas' and 'Edward Scissorhands', and that's pretty on point. What's with Tim Burton? Even other movies of his like Bettlejuice or Sleepy Hollow feel very suitable for a cozy christmas afternoon/evening.

As a wise man once said: "DO IT!". Cinema is timeless!
And if you find yourself in the mood for more Christmas-related old Hollywood films, you can also check out others like 'Miracle on 34th Street', 'The Lemon Drop Kid', or 'Christmas in Connecticut'.

Trid: As for movie... as stupid as it may sound I love Agatha Christie Poirot TV series and there is this one episode (there is also 1 movie but I don't like it that much) that it's happening during Christmas, somehow I love watching it around that time and the TV station usually air it around Christmas.
I loved 'Murder on the Orient Express' or 'Death on the Nile' but the TV series aren't bad at all. How could that be stupid? It's awesome!

That's not that bad (especially now with smartphones and tablets, where you can just not pay attention to the TV).

My dad used to (still does) play Christmas songs from the moment he'd wake up till the time the guests would arrive 5 hours later on full blast. When the guests arrived, he'd lower it a bit. Late sleeper teenage me wanted to bang his head against the wall.
On related topic, I just watched the Klaus movie on Netflix. Will finish watching it some other day, but so far I really, really liked what I saw. From the point of animation, to the point of story. Definitely great for this years Christmas.

Apart from that, there is no Christmas without Kevin... somehow...
When it comes to Agatha Christie movies, the ones that are still the most popular here are the Miss Marple movies starring Margret Rutherford. They are still on TV all the time and even young people know them.

And Santa left you a gift. Hope you don't need a detective to find it.

gogtrial34987: Thank you for continuing to spread holiday cheer in this manner. I'm in.

Not something I love, but definitely something I watch every year, with a special place reserved for it in hell (or my heart? the jury's still out): My christmases have been transformed ever since I acquired myself some German relations. Twenty different types of cookies fresh from the oven sounds like it'd be quite survivable, but their goodness is offset by the national German torture pastime called "Drei Haselnuesse fuer Aschenbroedel". It's a cinderella story, made in the early seventies as an East German / Czech production. It's every bit as cringeworthy as that'd make you think, with the most annoying catchy theme song - and all of current day Germany is absolutely in love with it. It'll be shown on German television stations every other day in the week around christmas (not an exaggeration! and at least three showings on christmas eve itself), with showings continuing until they're capped off at New Year's with "Dinner for One" (another bizarre tradition), and random groups of strangers at their christmas markets will randomly start 'singing' that theme music.

The worst part of it is, after a few years of exposure, I can't quite see anymore why exactly I hated this movie this badly... *wanders off in confusion, humming "naa-naa-na-na-na-na-naa-na-na-naaaa" under his breath*

PaterAlf: Thank you for posting this, it really made me laugh. Drei Haselnuesse fuer Aschenbroedel is indeed a weird phenomenom. I'm living in the eastern part of Germany for nearly 25 years now and I still can't understand why this movie is so popular here. It really has a cult following, I know people who watch it at least five times every winter. It's shown every single day of December on various TV station and there are also theatre productions in many cities. I'm still clueless why so many people love it, but who knows, maybe 25 more years will help me understand it.
Just because you guys mentioned this movie, I ended up watching "Tri orísky pro Popelku" today. It's far from being up to the standards of the various hollywood classics mentioned here, but it's not that horrible either. I enjoyed how the script manages to change the original feable and delicate main character to a cunning and corageous young woman. And the actress, Libuse Safránková, was so cute back then. However, as gogtrial34987 said, the music is really bad. Overall, it's an okay movie in my opinion. In case anybody's interested in a (much!) better Czech movie, I'd recommend "Horí, má panenko", a 1967 movie by Miloš Forman.
Just finished watching Tokyo Godfathers. Wow, what a ride! Definitely a Christmas miracle movie...and somehow it manages to be both Die Hard and A Wonderful Life...in the terms of Christmas movies. xD
Many thanks to skimmie and PaterAlf for this unexpected gift! Something like this can really change how you feel for the better. Minutes before I was fighting against Galaxy to make it launch a Dark Forces source port insted of DOSBox and now, after the initial surprise of what it was like a wrapped gift, I am excited to start a new adventure with a game I missed on sale last time and I was waiting for!
Big big thanks to skimmie for the surprise and PaterAlf who was so generous to gift the Count Lucanor!
I wish happy holidays to all of you, and a good time with your dearest people and games!
