TheSaint54: have you seen all of the multiplayer arena shooters coming in 2016? Battleborn, Overwatch, etc, are making me believe the industry will continue down this horrible road.
To solidify that feeling one only needs to read the following ariticle that advises the top selling game for 2015 was COD Black Ops III:
A well made multiplayer arena game is fine. Overwatch looks good and has been in production for a while, and will have multiple things to do and multiple characters to become adept at, vs Evolve which had like 6 classes (
plus leveling and gating). On the other hand i'd rather have Overwatch with a single person campaign for each character as both a tutorial and as a storyline to show what happened up to the trailer/teaser they put out.
To be truthful, arena shooters and deathmatches have always been fun. Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, Halo, running around and killing and just having a blast while getting the jump on your opponent. But there has to be variety, either level or weapons or mission objectives; and seeing as Evolve and Battlefront both have effectively 4 maps, that gets dull REAL fast. Imagine playing starcraft with only 4 maps ever available for 2-4 player matches... you'd get bored after a dozen plays because there's no variety except maybe starting position.
As for CoD... Some people only like military shooters and multiplayer games of 64 players killing eachother on a battlefield. I personally distain games that are too realistic, i don't need reminders of my time in the military. Honestly if you are rucking with 50+ pounds of crap on your back, the only thing you want to do is drop it in a ditch and sit down and wait for it all to be over, screw being bored, you'd rather be bored than force march. And carrying the weapon out all the time at the ready just wears your arms out, usually you just wrap the shoulder strap around your hand so the gun hangs there and you just get slight discomfort from your shoulder wanting to pop while you walk.
Damn... now I'm getting salty...
