An update to the game (Patch) that allows the original SimCopter to work on on modern systems like windows 10 plus adds support for more resolutions such as 16:9 and other modern resolutions. Crashes have been also fixed and there's plans to add more. Thanks to LGR on Twitter for telling the world about this.

P.S.

The developer (Source LGR Twitter replies) plans on working on Streets of SimCity next...

One the one hand, that's awesome.
On the other hand, unfortunately, my AV warns me of visiting the site.
Of course, it's possible that it just warns because it's a simple http, instead of a httpS site...anyone else get warnings?

No warning on Firefox.
IT LOOKS AMAZING!

Hey Darvond, I'm Alek the guy behind the SimCopterX project. Unfortunately my site got mass flagged probably because I have an exe directly linked, and that exe requires elevated permissions on Windows (Admin mode, required to modify existing files).

Fortunately I've been in contact with Microsoft to get it removed from Windows Defender, but I'm still working hard to get in contact with all antivirus vendors. Which antivirus vendor are you using?

Also to put your mind at ease, my project is now open source on GitHub. If you want to chat more you can drop in my Discord!

Thanks for your hard work! You might contact GOG (Support or a "blue" forum person like https://www.gog.com/u/Ashleee) to let them know what you're doing. I don't know what the current status of EA games coming to GOG is (it's been several years since the last releases), but depending on how you'd feel about your work being used (ideally you could get compensated some how), maybe it could assist in getting SimCopter and Streets here. But whatever happens thanks again.

Oh I'm not looking for any compensation really, although a few extra bucks could help me pay for both SSL certificates and code signing certificates ($80/yr, $200/yr respectively). I've tried numerous times contacting EA games and their email back was almost incomprehensible, it just sounded like they didn't want me redistributing their stuff (hence why the patcher route is also a good choice for SimCopterX).

If GOG has a close relationship with Electronic Arts I'd love to see if we can get SimCopter back up for the masses. One of the main reasons I embarked on this journey was my heavy disappointment for SimCity 2000 SE being sold on the EA/Origin store - which was just the old game packaged with DOSBox with no native support.

(You could at least ask for affiliate links, and if people purchase through those URLs, you get a small commission. I like GOG but don't undersell yourself. ;)

Yeah I don't know if GOG could get the Win95 version of SC2k working these days or not. The version on Origin is the version on GOG too; many people were disappointed that it was the DOS version but, well, at this point it is what it is. In recent years there have been a few fanmade patches for the network edition I think (and I let GOG staff know about them), but I guess that just didn't work out.

Whatever GOG's current "relationship status" is with EA (I imagine they aren't on bad terms but EA is still way more massive than GOG so perhaps getting EA's attention is tough), I'd again heartily encourage you to reach out to GOG and at least let them know. :) Even if that doesn't work out, at least you're giving people a way to play the games on modern machines.

I'm not surprised by the email, a lot of business and lawyer-speak I imagine. You could also post on the Origin forum: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/bd-p/origin-general-discussion-en - they have some community folks there who aren't so "corporate".

Thanks a ton for your posts and resources, super motivational. I'm not sure about "nGlide" but the original game did come with the glide.dll but it was sort of.. experimental? With certain versions of the game Glide was technically loaded but nothing more than that, while in other later versions it was supported but only as an optional command line argument. The inherent issue with the game was the single game loop running all the logic, which of course runs too fast on modern processors.

The SimCopterX patch simply adds a detour to a Sleep function after the "PeekMessage" routine (Windows stuff) to fix this specific problem.

After taking a look on the nGlide site, it looks like its compatible with version "1.02", which is analogous with Version 1.2 - which was the rollback for SimCopter to remove the infamous himbo easter egg event. Also I believe with that command-line argument for SimCopter - I think it only puts you in some sort of experimental mode (could be wrong). In Streets of SimCity glide was generally more supported and integrated right from release.

(Just to be clear, nGlide is - basically, I think - an emulator for glide-supporting games. GOG uses it for Carmageddon 1-2, and I think Slave Zero and Redline and Archemedian Dynasty and Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D and more.)

I think you're right about the experimental part and whatnot, though I never really understood "tech" stuff like this (despite trying to learn C# currently) tbh so chatting on the nGlide forum was kinda running in circles for my brain. Here's the thread I originally created about Streets and SimCopter asking if nGlide could support them, and the nGlide dev and a few others responded - http://www.zeus-software.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=726&p=3940 He seems to say he got it working but I don't know how stable it is across a variety of systems. I assume your work will be quite a bit more stable in any case.

How the hell does this work?

I copied the files from my CD to a folder on my C drive (I guess that is meant by extract out the launcher file I downloaded but all it does is sit there. I click ptahc is says my versoin of simccopert is already the most recent, but the Dispatch button is grayed out.
What am i doing wrong>
could Alex give some exact instructions on how to use this?
Thanks.

Using one of the fanmade patches/Installer for the Windows 95 version of Sim City 2000:SE, my CD version of the game works just fine. I think it is just laziness on GOG's part, frankly. If a bunch of amateurs could come up with a program to make the 95 version run on a modern computer, I presume GOG could od the same.

Hey I have some instructions on my website under "Help and Info". You need to extract the CD-ROM contents somewhere. After you start the SimCopterX Launcher, click "Patch Game" then select the SimCopter.exe. It shouldn't say anything about "being the most recent" so I'm a little confused. Can you screenshot or show the message you are getting?

Thanks!
