I recently moved out of my apartment and into a house, and as I've been remodeling, thought about turning the one room into a game room. Problem is, I'm not quite sure what kind of setup I would like or would look best.

Looking for some inspiration, I thought, what better place than asking on my favorite gaming platform forums? Now's your chance to not only show off your game room, but give me some ideas of how to piece together mine, and with what kind of furniture or decorations.

Whether you have a big, fancy setup, or just a simple laptop on a folding table with a Fallout bobblehead (which is what I had at the apartment, lol.) Id'd love to see them all!

Lol, not too far off for me right now. Here’s a picture of my current situation to get things started. My duct-taped laptop on the dining room table. :) Even put the Fallout Bobblehead there!

Interview with a GOG forumite: "Yeah, I don't have a CPU cooler, I just blow air at it or use these sheets of paper as a makeshift fan whenever the screen freezes."

Not at home at mo, however the one thing I would say is put effort and money into a sit/stand desk and position it out of glare from sunny windows. Comfort to avoid RSI and back pain, and screen glare to avoid eye damage. After that it is all cosmetic.
I just got a free monitor for my home office (= gaming room) from my workplace, as there were a couple of older 22" Dell monitors lying around without use. So I asked the boss and he was like sure help yourself (the benefits of working in a smaller company, in a bigger company the HR or IT department would have probably said the company rules forbid employees taking company hardware into personal use, even if sometimes doing work on them at home as well blaa blaa blaa).

My desk is big, but I am still cramped because I have so much shit on it. So in order to avoid having to clear some room from the mess, I decided to put the monitor on a pedestal so that it is above my aging gaming laptop's 17.2" screen (see the photo).

Helps working at home, but also nice for gaming if I have some web page or walkthrough open in the other screen.

Heh. I have one of those older beefy ASUS laptops, although mine has been collecting dust in the closet for years. I really ought to donate/ecycle it one of these days. ... That mousepad looks positively... ew. =P

Good golly man, are you recreating the control room for NASA’s first mission to the moon!
Also a work in progress here! Just received a figurine, still need to find a proper spot for it, currently awaiting two cable stash boxes i can install underneath the desk, hang up a shelf , probably in black, might need to move the spider a bit down, relocate the two dragon book holders to the future shelf.... 1,5 months until vacation \o/

Tissues for the hay fever, and magnesium as a test to see if the extra shots of magnesium help with activating some gland that is supposed to help with uhm... fatburning ;)

currently 85 kg and a bmi of 25.1

The digital scale should deserve a place on this picture too as a newfound hobby btw... all the things the scale measures from vet percentage to body mass, bone muscle, protein and minerals deficit, hydration level probably a lot of bull but fun to chart

;)

So yea, if you don't have one yet i would certainly recommend anyone to add that to their gameroom, work in progress or not

And coffee. Which causes a need to supplement zinc & magnesium ;)

If they created the NASA control room by adding random crap onto the desk, then yes.

There are lots of (also disconnected) chargers there that shouldn't really be there cluttering the table, like one micro-USB charger that I occasionally use to charge my phone, another (USB-C) charger which I use to charge the two 8Bitdo gamepads that are normally used by my son in the other room with Nintendo Switch (playing solely Minecraft on the Switch), you see a glimpse of the edge of an old IBM ThinkPad T41 laptop that for some reason is just sitting there (I ran it at some point to check its internal hard drive), there's a charger dock station for my Bose bluetooth speaker that I finally was able to fix (it wouldn't charge due to a design flaw in the product, but I was able to fix it and now it charges again), an USB fan to cool down the two hard drives sitting on the USB dock station...

...and on the other side of the desk which you can't see on the photo, there is that said Bose speaker, a handheld rechargeable vacuum cleaner I bought from Lidl a couple of weeks ago, a big Yamaha amplifier I've been meaning to set up for over a year etc.

And now it is even more cluttered, with an extra monitor on a pedestal. Perfect!

I'll probably give that to my son to play Team Fortress 2, as soon as I get a new gaming laptop (or desktop, but probably a laptop, especially as the price of the gaming laptops hasn't increased similarly as those of desktop GPUs, for some reason...).

Just yesterday I was seriously considering buying something like this from the summer sale:

https://www.gigantti.fi/product/gaming/pelikannettavat/262975/acer-predator-helios-300-15-6-pelikannettava

...buut I'd really prefer getting a XMG https://www.xmg.gg/en/xmg-neo-2021/ especially as I'd prefer an AMD Ryzen laptop...

My wife bought the gaming mousepad as a Xmas present like 2 years ago or so. For some reason it looks much worse on that photo than in "real life", probably due to the lightning.

It is not like I have spilled something on it, I think that coloring is mainly just dust, and then the surface of that mouse mat is odd in a way that if you merely scrape its surface with your fingernail, you get a white color that won't go away. I don't know what space age microfiber surface it has, probably causes cancer at least.

Is that some kind of small soundbar, on top of two paper coffee cups? Looks neat, kinda similar ad-hoc setup like how I put my external monitor on pedestal, the pedestal being a plastic CD case holder (I've thrown most of the CDs to trashbin already).

Does the soundbar have a separate subwoofer or is it included in the soundbar?

I knew I should have tidied up my desk before taking the photo. It is like people's living rooms they show on magazines, you don't take the photo when your SO is sitting on the sofa with mere underwear, eating pizza and drinking beer, watching football. Yeah, my wife is like that.
