Hi, I have around 300 some steam games but i never liked the drm nature of steam so i got a bunch of games on sale on gog and i was wondering do you guys think gog will ever become a real alternative to steam as in getting the AAA releases and what not? I do like the drm free philosophy of GOG, I personally think that's how steam and all the other clients should be. I was wondering what your guys opinion was on this?

Does it matter if as you say you prefer DRM-Free over Steam? Buy what you can here and if AAA's ever start showing up, then start buying those too?

As for the likelyhood of AAA's showing up more. Very slowly probably.

Steam has a larger catalog and generally better client. Gog has a higher quality catalog, and no DRM and better support for older games. There's also a handful of games that are available on Gog but not Steam. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Gog will in all likelihood take quite a while to catch up when it comes to the breadth of their catalog.

GOG talked about the release of a AAA title this year day-one, but nobody knows what's that title or even if it didn't already released people being none the wiser.

So yeah... I don't think we will have a flood of AAA title tomorow, but there is definitely some kind of hope for the future.

But if you really are into gaming for AAA games, origin, steam, uplay, bethesda future thingy, rockstar club,... or the windows store are your best bet on PC for a while. DRM-free gaming needs some resolution to be kept :) .

Well, it depends on how much you dislike DRM.

If you can tolerate some DRM, then maybe using both platforms is a good compromise as others have suggested. Grab what's available here, and get the remainder elsewhere.

I had actually stopped buying PC games for a while (2004-2010) as more became Steam-exclusive before I learned about GOG.com because I did not like the model Steam offered: specifically that access to the software depended on server authentication. This is a bit of an extreme position, and is not for everyone.

AAA games typically have massive marketing budgets. They tend to be more conservative and risk averse too. Still there are some quality ones here and there.

Yeah not all AAA games are good but there are some that are. Though most of the risks for new game ideas seem to come from indies though.

Bottom line is this: money talks. So, the more people that come to GOG and spend their money here, the more the publishers of AAA games will take notice. Eventually, if enough people are shopping here, they may bring their games here.

I enjoyed Civ 5 quite a bit. Beyond Earth, on the other hand, was just plain wretched. Rome II was so bad that I've totally given up hope on CA. They're pathetic. :(
