If you buy there you only get the censored German version. On GOG, you can download both version once you bought the game. So GOG can't sell the game to Germany.

Just like Geralt said in post 21 above. You could always 'go on vacation' to another country and pick the game up there.

Are you sure about this (regarding Steam)?
I can't find any restricted "German" packages on steamdb.info...
In my experience Steam normally informs you on the store page if you get a cut version (e.g.: "Southpark - The Stick of Truth" is marked as "Low violence version"); I don't see any such info here.

Back in the day when the game was released Steam didn't mark censored versions. If you were from Germany you could only get the German version and everyone else got the English version and there was no hint on the store page that you would get a different version in Germany.

It should still be this way since Far Cry is still on the German index.

Ah man, I was sick and didn't notice this. Good stuff other than nothing new of course, but nothing new is nothing new ;)
