Barry_Woodward: GOG splitting off their business seems like a recipe for disaster. Whatever you'd hope they do with a sister site, they could do on the main site.
Not if they are truly intent on keeping GOG with "that boutique feeling" slash not risking damaging the GOG name or "polluting" the main GOG storefront.

I have several games there, but it's not a big loss, because I already downloaded everything some time ago. I should use my $5 store credit though (which they gave to me, because a download didn't work).

Any suggestions for a game I should get?
Its a shame. It was a good site that started out well. I have around 10-15 games from there. The mistake was becoming a steam key reseller, that lost my custom and probably others, and the key reseller market is so tough. Just shows you need a niche idea in the market.

They actually have some good under 5$ games.

Good ones are the Gobliiins trilogy, Painkiller, The Perfidious Petrol Station, Earth games etc.

mqstout: I'd purchased a couple items on ShinyLoot that I didn't seem to find anywhere else (mainly, Grotesque Tactics). Their catalog wasn't quite 100% DRM-free, but they were fully-labeled, and searchable what was/was not. They basically redistributed whatever the seller provided them (ie, some items were just .RAR files). Shame to see them go away.

And with Desura having its issues, things aren't looking good for the industry.
Hm, Desura has closed down 6 months ago so another site goes in to history now with Shiny Loot saying goodbye.

It is still running as I speak. Even with the bankruptcy.
That's really sad. :(

I have a bunch of games on ShinyLoot (mostly from Groupees bundles) so it's time to download them asap.

yogsloth: I'm tellin' ya, with Desura dead and even Humble seeming to be making a major strategic shift, the door is open for Groupees to become a player. But I rather expect them to be the next to go under, sadly.
DotEmu is also a contestant for that. They stopped doing offers on their site and the About page talks about game porting and development, not about distribution. GamersGate is in a better position concerning revenue (because of AAA titles) and their support said they are working on a relaunch of the site, no idea when that will happen. Groupees is in my opinion also going downhill, at least from the quality. Will any competitor be able to make a decent income from indie games and bundles?
Hmm, have some unused keys, time to do a giveaway.

Unfortunately GG's always been a bit friendly with DRM.

I'd make a second purchase from them if they'd get rid of the mandatory download client and just provide some direct links already. :)
Thank you Mqstout for the news +1.
A sad news, I have only 2 games on Shinyloot, but it wasn't a bad store. Just a tiny store with a tiny staff and with tiny sales compared to Steam or GOG. Just an other victim of the globalization.
I guess Fireflower games will be the next in a few years...

I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that FireFlower was a hobby for him, rather than a necessary or planned source of income. They have been my #2 store since I found them, solely because they won't sell anything with DRM.

You're right! I always assumed the Desura website was still running because the hosting was paid in advance for the whole of 2015, and that it would go down at the end of the year. Looks like I was wrong.

However, although *it is* technically still running, I think we should all treat it as the corpse it is. I haven't tried buying anything there since the bankruptcy announcement (and who would? :P) but even if your payment gets accepted, the devs won't see a penny for your purchase, that's for sure...
That's really sad. :(
