nightcraw1er.488: Any chance they are going to do a blowout sale before the end? Didn't see anything in the email, but it would be nice to catch the last few games on there on my wishlist.
Very unlikely, I expect, given the following passage. It seems like the site in its present state just isn't worth the effort (to them) any more. Plus, the November sale seems not to have satisfied them. Another sale likely wouldn't, either.
Both founding members of ShinyLoot have slowly lost the drive and passion we used to break into the market. It became clear that the long hours needed to see ShinyLoot thrive would not be ending anytime soon. Stress started to play a role in both of our lives and we sacrificed other ventures to make this work. So we took a break for most of 2015 to try to reignite the spark with our most recent sale in November, but it simply didn't last. And in that time, the market has grown even more competitive. At this point, we simply don't think managing ShinyLoot as a digital distributor is a significant addition to the gaming community nor the right course of action for us personally or professionally. There are simply too many services that provide an equal or better substitute for our offerings.

Thanks, I had thought as much. Might still pick up the last couple as some are not available anywhere else.
The one problem I'd have with buying new games at ShinyLoot now that we know they're going out of business, is that for non-Steam games at least it may be difficult to impossible to get game updates should any games get patched in the future by their publishers. That is mitigated if the publisher offers Steam/GOG/whatever keys to existing game owners with proof of purchase or whatnot though.

Even if a game hasn't gotten a patch in months/years, sometimes it happens. Look at Postal 2 for example.

GR00T: Actually, most gamers don't give a crap about DRM.

CharlesGrey: I think his point was, that given the choice, as long as both versions are otherwise identical in features etc., most wouldn't pick the version which has some DRM client/restriction added to it.

Cavalary: Sadly, yeah. But that's not something specific. Most people don't give a crap about anything.
Yeah, to both of that. It's hard to care about something if you don't know about it, after all. And even then people may still have reasons not to care about it. (Essentially, they most assuredly prefer non-DRM over DRM, but they get benefits for using the DRM they otherwise would not: see for instance the many features that many game clients like Steam offer.)

IAmSinistar: It is on Desura, for whatever that's worth at this point. I believe I got it there via IndieRoyale, back when those were worth picking up.
Thanks.
Although for now I'll just wait for it to hopefully show up in an active store. Fireflowergames has many point&clicks and I think should go for those not in GOG (and there are a lot of post 2000 ones).
So where would be a good place to give away a few unwanted ShinyLoot keys? Is there a forum for that that I've missed or should I just ask who wants them here?

I think this thread is a good place to get rid of ShinyLoot keys. You could also try the "Non-GOG gifting thread".

Ok, thanks. I'll post them here first, though the thread was looking a bit dead, and then go to the other thread for what's left.

So, anyone who wants one of these ShinyLoot games, post here (the first post gets it) Note: All of these are DRM-free (grab 'em fast) and some also include a Steam or Desura key, where noted:

All gone.

I'd love to take this, if I may:

plan99: Rhythm Destruction (Steam)
Also, I found a few SL keys of my own, if anyone wants them.

Cheers.

Heh, seeing a couple of these games offered here made me check my ShinyLoot wishlist again and wonder why did I put them on it. Granted, it was a very tentative wishlist, checking the stuff I hadn't heard of before and pretty much adding what wasn't exactly uninteresting, but even so...

And sort of on that note, and about their concept of "trait-based game discovery" and chance of remaining a service for that but without the commercial aspect, would sure help if they'd allow to filter OUT traits too.

Sent them a nice email; despite me saying there was no need for them to reply, got a very quick and very nice email back. There is that Austin connection tho...

Best of luck to the shinyloot dudes.

Thank you!

Downloading now.
Well if there are no other takers I could give Hero's Tale a shot.
I am kind of partial to these RPG maker games.
Well, not that I finish them most of time before something shinier appears but they are able to keep me occupied. :-)
