Revan509: Cry more or use Galaxy

Lukin86: Gog said galaxy optional.
And Galaxy, whatever the version number, will never actually leave beta.
GOG has been lacking in the offline setup department for the last 5 years for sure, it became even worse during the pandemic, its a shame really.

Not just offline installers. Customer support in general. It *almost* feels like they introduced the automated 30day refund policy in order not to have to deal with fixing the games or spending resources for a proper CS.....

Yeah that too, like the pessimistic side of my mind says this will never change and GOG is a sinking ship but my more optimistic side says that hopefully GOG gets back to functioning correctly, time will tell on which side wins in the end.

Yea i hear ya.... For better or for worse gog is the only viable DRM-free place right now (Eroge excluded. Rather go elsewhere for those).
So we gotta weather the storm for now and hope things will improve after the proverbial clouds dissipate...

angelblue: It would be nice if GOG could solve the problem of certain offline games.
Why would they? They want everyone to switch to Galaxy. They've been treating non-Galaxy users like dead weight for years.

If it makes you feel "better", Galaxy itself has never been in such a sorry state. With several features still missing from 1.2 and others bugged to hell.

I'm one of those who use both offline installers and Galaxy (for downloading said offline installers and running the games).
Everything about gog is broken in one way or the other.

Syphon72: Some newer updates have broken or added more game bugs .
Some have, whether inadvertently/accidentally or not, added Galaxy online DRM requirements for games to even start or play (currently Tempest with no time-table on the issue being fixed, previously For the King for a quite lengthy amount of time before it was fixed).

I tried for 1 hour to create a ticket before realizing that the French page (and certainly other languages) does not allow to send tickets (despite what it says). I switched to the English page and discovered the bot.
I've just spent over an hour asking the bot to send GOG information about Dawn of war soulstorn. First of all, the bot had trouble finding the name of the game. Then it asked me for a DXdiag file. This file is useless, given my request. But anyway, it can't even take .txt files. Finally, some kind soul gave me the e-mail address of GOG support so I could report the problem to them.

Conclusion. GOG really needs to improve things. I'm someone who has always respected and defended GOG. I've even helped a few people who work at GOG (and I'm happy about that). But something has to be done.

True. They can't even get the wishlist to work properly.

What did that have to do with what I said?

It was a general addition to a problem you pointed out, about how some updates have caused problems with games. I would consider a game being unplayable offline/without Galaxy "broken" and what concerns me more is that it would remain up for sale in this broken state so new buyers would be stuck buying the "broken" version until the issue is fixed. We have seen it take quite some time for these issues to be fixed; I surmise that quite a few users would get just give in and use Galaxy, which in turn furthers the Galaxification of this site indirectly.

Thank you for explaining. I appreciate it.

Lukin86: I created a march ticket concerning mount and blade warband to indicate that the offline setup is not up to date (1.059). The galaxy version has the latest version (1.06x).
You can't always go by version numbers.

Do you know for sure, that the Galaxy update has something needed by Offline users?
Sometimes an update is just Galaxy relevant and has nothing useful for us Offline users.

That's normal for other games on the site too. I'm tempted to send GOG a "Happy 2nd Anniversary" cake for broken Saints Row 3 Remastered offline installer seemingly abandoned after 2 years (both the game and the 'investigation' into it)...
