JamesBond007: This raises a question - will the original be delisted for good or maybe it will just be merged with the remaster?
When Nightdive keeps it the way they did it with System Shock or Blood then the original version will be added to the Extras of the new remastered version once that one is available. To be honest though the classic PC version of Shadow Man is a very lackluster one with a lot of issues. I wouldn't be sad if the remastered version would turn out to be the only available version in the end. It already worked well that way for the Turok games. Nobody would ever go back and play the old PC versions of Turok 1 and 2 after checking out the remastered versions from Nightdive. Yep Nightdive doing their thing once more. Release date is April 15, 2021.
Here are the teaser trailers:

I used to think ShadowMan was just a reskin of BloodRayne. But I was wrong. ShadowMan released first, and was made by someone else. But they played SOOOO similarly (and Tomb Raider, too) that I suspected they had the same engine designers or something.

fronzelneekburm: $5.99 was a decent enough price point for a game this old.
Anyone wanna bet how much the "Remaster" is going to sell for? $9.99? $19.99?
Yeah, can't have people being able to plop down a few(like 1-3 on sales) bucks for the old version....gotta have people buy the new versions instead...even if that's accomplished by removing old versions from sale. Anyone wanna bet how much the "Remaster" is going to sell for? $9.99? $19.99?
But hey, if one wants the old version they will can usually get such for "free" with the purchase of the the new version. o.0

Voodoo, the other side, if that sounds appealing, then you need this. It is sad to see an original game leaving.

Yeah, and without needing to buy the higher priced new version to get the old one.
I mean, for some of the games that went this route, I used to be able to get the old versions for a few bucks in sales.....now even when the new versions go on sale one often has to spend more on them then the old versions cost at full price.
Shadow Warrior did a great thing, imo....the ip holders made it a permanent freebie that doesn't need another purchase to get. Of course that is going above and beyond.....i'd be happy with the old versions just being left up for sale when new ones come out. :)

Yeah.....here's hoping they at least make it a freebie in the new version if it comes to GOG.
You could say that
(content note: Princess and Frog, sfw)

Sure thing you should have the choice but why would you pick the worse version that runs and controls like ass over the new version that will improve these things and also adds new effects and new content on top? Makes no sense imo.

A few reasons come to mind: 1. Sometimes those new versions change things and become worse off in some ways than the originals(like the generic sounding new intro music/soundtrack and so so new voice acting for the Gabriel Knight 1 remake), or content is cut for various reasons(like the supposed toned down romance scenes and other dialog in the upcoming Mass Effect remaster).
2. The older version is often cheaper.
3. Often the modding community has fixed/will fix many of an older version's problems and add new content/features.....and most times for free.

1. I don't think that will be the case with this remaster. ND announced that there will be content that was cut in the past put back into the game. 2. The older version is often cheaper.
3. Often the modding community has fixed/will fix many of an older version's problems and add new content/features.....and most times for free.
2. Of course the old version will be cheaper. That shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. A new product with new content and new features that's running on a completely different engine will always cost more than a classic version that is 20+ years old. The problem with people complaining about the higher price once the remaster is released is because most people only look at the games graphics and will be like "there is no difference, this is just a lazy cash grab and should actually be a free update instead" which is not the truth with many remastered games. There is often enough a lot of stuff improved under the surface which is also sometimes not that easy to accomplish.
3. Sure the modding community for game X is a lot of times doing an impressive job when it comes to improving certain parts (e.g. upscaled textures, gameplay mods, etc.) but they can't fix it all. For Shadow Man e.g. fixing the atrocious mouse controls would require messing around with the source code which hasn't been made publicly available so getting that fixed in the old version is not really possible. Having this finally fixed in the remaster will make a huge difference on how you'll be playing the game and on how it will feel in general.

They deserve to get paid for the work put in, I agree, but 3-5x(or more) the price of the old versions of games seems a bit much.....especially considering that a large chunk could be done by community modders for free. (things such as higher prices would be easier to stomach if the old version was able to be bought alongside the new)
Also lazy or no, such things are usually more often than not cash grabs: many of these companies see the nostalgia tied to a game/series and figure that a remake/remaster/etc is both cheaper/easier to do and will bring in loads of cash from those who liked the originals as well as new customers(and tbh they're usually not wrong on this).

Berzerk2k2: We don't know yet what the price will actually be. It could be that the remaster will be the same price as Blood: Fresh Supply (10$) which is imo a fair price.
That is a fair price.....but with the track record of remakes/remasters, I am guessing it will be more like around 25+. Anyhoo, the point I was trying to make is that(imo): they should leave the old versions for sale alongside the new ones....for those who don't want to buy the new ones for whatever reason.
(personal example: I sometimes like to buy old games for people as gifts....with companies that "lock" the old versions behind the purchase of the new ones, that increases what I need to spend to do so[even when on sale, many remakes/remasters often cost more than the old versions at full price])

Agree with GamezRanker here. The original should absolutely always stay, but of course they won't do that because why would they keep it up, let people buy a cheaper alternative and lose money?
Some companies pretty much made this their MO (Microsoft, Blizzard). Re-releasing older stuff again and again and always bumping the price. Much cheaper than making a whole new game and sells like hotcakes because of nostalgia. How many versions of AoE 2 are there now again? With the original nowhere to be found but physical releases?
The original should stay for A) Historical reasons, B) Some changes could be made that can feel like going against the spirit/feel of the original (graphical, balance etc.) and C) As a sign of goodwill from the publisher, not railroading people into only the more expensive option.
