Grargar: Just be aware that the BFG Edition is more than twice as expensive as the normal version+expansion (£20 vs £8).

omega64: And that it's worse than the original version of Doom 3. :P
The base game is more or less the same but with a fantastic new torch. I didn't see much difference if I'm honest. Though if I were to pick one I'd go for the original based on mod support.

The BFG edition is much brighter. Turning on the flashlight looked awful to me.
Edit: Even when I turned the game down to the lowest setting.

You sure it wasn't a glitch? I know it had a couple for patching. My copy was as dark as the original. Saying that, it was the xbox 360 version.

I bought it quite a while after it was done patching. :P
Might have been a glitch, still don't like the change to the flashlight though. They could've at least made it optional.

Grogger: Language or no, it's true. The BFG edition was worse than a greedy money grab. I remember being convinced it was nothing more than what amounted to a paid advert to drum up interest in the impending Doom 4 at the time (before Doom 4's development turned out to be a disaster and scrapped). Doom 3 BFG was basically an advert they got people to buy, while it was itself a crap version of an older cheap game (I bought a DVD because it was about $2 many years ago).
That being said, it provided a handy means of playing Doom 1 & 2 on a PS3 without having to fork out for used copies of PS1 Final Doom.

It certainly beats the original Torch. Easily one of the worst design choices of that generation.

nightcraw1er.488: Fair enough, I had assumed the BFG edition was a GOTY edition with all the bits patched up and final. Will stick with my separate copies.
Everyone's entitled to get whichever one they prefer, except in this instance regarding BFG I would suggest one looks into the differences between the two versions. The BFG edition does have things which the older doesn't like support for 3D headsets (which is there because Carmack was interested and playing with VR/headsets, before going to work for....Oculus VR) . Though it's mod support has been very much kneecapped from what I remember including not being able to use most existing mods without having to fix them and not supporting some at all, some modding is now pretty much impossible compared to the original if I remember right.

Unfortunately I don't remember all the differences and details so I can't list them with certainty here for others convenience, though I do remember being excited when I first heard about a "BFG" edition only to be more and more disappointed the more I found out about it and being frustrated by how they were removing and breaking things (literally, it has new bugs) only to add a few other things I personally had no interest in and I'm not sure how much things have changed since then.

A quick search should turn up some information, I quickly found some promising results and something on Eurogamer which could be summed up as saying it's the new console version of Doom 3 (FOV, brightness etc changed for TV viewing). Which kind of ties into my old suspicions of it being little more than a tool to drum up interest in what at the time was the upcoming Doom 4, they do make more money on the consoles afterall.

Basically I would suggest going with the old version and trying out some of the loads and loads of mods for it, even if it's one's first playthrough there are graphics mods that will keep the game as it is but just be much better looking (some of the original Doom 3 textures were a joke and BFG keeps to that joke).

To get an idea of what you could mod the original into graphically an image search for Doom 3 Wulfen will probably make your jaw drop and your PC cry out for mercy if it can run it.

Thanks, hadn't seen that mod. Yes, I have a shed load of mods for the original versions, it was mainly the HD mod I mentioned that I was interesting in, however the one you posted looks better, so will try that out.

You can no longer skip cutscenes, that's a new feature. :P
Croteam and GOG? I doubt we'll see anything besides the First and Second Encounter games. They chased pirates by a scorpion in Serious Sam 3 and got them stuck in a lift in Talos Principle. I'm not sure why they continue such practices, pirates still get the last laugh in the end.

As for Doom 3 I think there is a chance of it being here, the game is more or less DRM-Free (the single player cdkey prompt can be bypassed by running the game with your internet disconnected).

The HD Serious Sams would be awfully nice. Voted for those ages ago. Those and Doom 3 (despite the criticism, I loved that game) are among some of my favorite games. Serious Sam 2 wasn't exactly stellar, but I'd give it another run-through, and it'd be nice to have it here for the sake of completion.

Grargar: Doom 3 isn't marked as in progress. Doom 1+2+3 is marked as in progress and that's because "part of the wish has been completed".
I misunderstood that ! Thanks for the explanation, wise cat. The wishlist system is deeply tricky.

tinyE: Doom 3 is coming here? How did they pull that off? I have it on disc and I still can't play it because of the DRM so I can't imagine it would get anywhere near this place.
Have you tried applying the final patch? It removes the copy protection entirely.

Note: I have not tried this particular version of the patch. Proceed with caution.

I'll try that. Thanks.

Right now it just tells me my serial codes aren't valid. XD

triple_l: SS FE and SE are masterpieces
Serious Sam 2 is a mediocre childish console port that doesn't deserve a vote click
Actually, I prefer SS 2 over SS FE and SS SE - better graphics, much more variety and less tiring because of fewer enemies. All SS games are cartoonish, but I don't see where SS 2 is that much more childish than other SS games.
