Same as lots of others, I pronounce it as a word to rhyme with 'fog'. After all, the letters don't stand for anything any more.

DoomSooth: It's trolling when the creator of GIFs says it's pronounced "JIF"? :)
Yeah, that's top tier trolling.

If he's really committed he'll start pronouncing graphics as jraphics.

*Jonathan as Gonathan
I either call it:
1."Gee-Oh-Gee"
2. Or as if it were a word & say it out as "Gog".
gog is not an abbreviation anymore, so it's just gog for me.
Gog/bog, or, the "thestoreformerlyknownasgoodoldgames".

toxicTom: "thestoreformerlyknownasgoodoldgames".
I really love his hit song "Purple Dot".
So the JOJ pronunciation is not very popular.

Would it help to meet them half way? Which is better JOG or GOJ?

In all seriousness, I favour the hard g, rhymes with bog pronunciation.
I simply say GOG ... rhymes with Dog.

GOG has become much more than Good Old Games, and official spelling no longer uses a period between letters, so it doesn't make sense to say the letters separately.

Keep it simple I say, but each to their own I guess.

I sometimes refer to members here as GOGGERS .... rhymes with Joggers. Would be hard or weird to come up with something else.

That's a hit single off of "Purple Dot 4 Life - Songs of the forever unfixed". Got the album early this year. It has the atlas GOGBear on the cover, but now he's wearing a gold chain, a yellow cap and brass knuckles.

LiquidOxygen80: This. I just say GAHG.
avatar
InSaintMonoxide: This made me realize that both the GAHG and the Geee-Oh-Geee pronunciation make for perfect orgasm moans.
This may need more research! I nominate our trolls, as it may preoccupy them for awhile!

I'm not sure I've ever seen it written with full stops, even back in the Good Old Games days.

BreOl72: Back, when it still stood for "Good Old Games", I said "Gee-Oh-Gee".
But nowadays, I simply say "GOG".

This is a confusing post. You agree and then directly contradict the pronunciation you're apparently agreeing with.

You know O and AH are different sounds, right? :P

100%

If he wanted them to be Jifs, he would have gone with .JIF. Although he could then take it to the next level of trolling by inventing .JIF files and pronouncing that as Gif.

pds41: Gog as in "Gog and Magog".
I think Persians pronounce these two similar to "shoe", as "shoe-sh" and "ma-shoe-sh".

For me GOG rhymes with "cog".
