Totally agree with this, and I'm frankly amazed that I agree with jonathanamz for once. But yeah, I fail to understand why the remastered/redux/enhanced/definitive editions are coming to mean no more original version for sale.

That's just how game updates work these days. In most cases on GOG, Steam, etc., you can't download old versions of a game, only the most recent one. It's unfortunate, but it's certainly not unique to these remastered/enhanced/whatever versions of games.

Well, to my way of thinking, updates (ie patches, which seems to be what you're referencing) are different than completely new and overhauled editions.

could it be a solution to buy an old crappy gfx card and play the redux version on it. that way it would be like playing the original version?

or maybe just deactivate the blur effect?

Playing the Redux lately; it is not much different from my memory of the original i played some years ago, visually... I did lower the gamma from 1.00 to 0.75 to get some of the, apparently lost atmosphere... It seems a bug from the engine to apply dynamic something, a PR suggested in the Steam forum.

Gameplay, the Dash feature is cool and feels really natural. no clue how i played this game without it before! :o

Still not reached the mission 4 or 5 to try the cyber katana... I am at the 3rd.

I recall the last levels were not properly balanced with TANK foes... I finished it back then; quite liked the game but it did not leave much of an impact on me; a cool shooter with the main feat, the interaction with the environment and the different visual cues hinting at enemies properties and sensibility to rifle or plasma shots...

For 3€ i recommend the upgrade to elligible buyers (owners of the original or Shadow Warrior 2013 get it 85% off) if this is indeed a bug needing a patch, and not intended downgrade as a console port to Pc; and it seems the Redux do come with the original in Steam, from one of the threads there in the early pages. As for GOG version it would be only fair to add the same if that's the case. Cheers.

There is a difference between the same game updated, and a whole new game that is a remake of the orignal. Surely you can see a difference between a patched version of the original Baldur's Gate, and a the new Enchanced Edition?

There are several cases where the old version is still available as a bonus.

Just out of my mind: Broken Sword, Broken Sword 2, Crimsonland, Divinity: Original Sin, Ether One, Mind: Path to Thalamus, Octodad, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Outcast, Seven Kingdoms 2, Stronghold, Stronghold Crusader, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Trine, Wasteland 2.

I'm sure there are many more.

If I look hard I can see some minor differences in that video and those photos comparing redux with the initial version.
But after just finishing sstrife the reset looks damn nice and I'm having a blast with it, it's a good game!

Honestly, I'm not sure where to draw the line. With Baldur's Gate I would say that the Enhanced Edition is different from a patch, yes. But with something like Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition? I don't know. You can do so much with patches these days that I can't tell what warrants a re-release and what doesn't.

This is all getting away from my original point though. Regardless of the difference between patches and new editions of games, in both cases it can result in the original version being unavailable for download. I can't get the original Hard Reset on GOG, but I also can't get the launch version of Terraria. There's nothing new, unusual, or surprising about it.

While I can tell the differences in those comparisons, it is not something that will bother me personally. From the looks of it though, it seems the upgraded engine offers better performance so that's definitely a plus, especially for those with low end systems. Regardless, the game still looks great.

1. There is a list of games that have the "old" version available jsut two posts above yours.
2. Just because somethin is not "unusual" does not mean it's the way things should be. I'm not really sure what stating that fact was supposed to prove. It's not like someone here was vocally opposing giving people the option to get unpatched versions of games, is it? It would be best if we had the option to get the launch version of Terraria or any other game. It's always preferable to have choices.

I hope somehow gog.com convinces Flying WildHog to release the original version of Hard Reset with Hard Reset Redux.
