BanditKeith2: Dude it was the leftists/progressives that created the term cancel culture not the right..
avatar
rojimboo: Na aah. That's not what Tucker Carlson said... heh

avatar
BanditKeith2: the left just changed terms when they was called out over their shit too much on using it in a stupid way and they still do..
avatar
rojimboo: I didn't really get this. You're saying they coined the term, but then re-defined it to use against the other side, even though it's clearly used by the right today to signify a mob rule? Yeah, you lost me.

Anyways, regardless who started the whole damn silly thing, it shouldn't even be called cancel culture in its current iteration.

It should be consequence culture.
First who the hell is Tucker Carlson ?

Second its literally the leftists/progressives that coined it and was going after people who didn't deserve it .. for example there was this one big shot star(forgot her name) that would get people that just claimed people did something and shit her followers on people not even fact check that stuff and often got people fired.. Barred from schools or even offing themselves from BS claims or stupid shit people said as kids before they grew up knowing better ruining some now peoples whole lives or futures from not fact checking or even checking the context of things ..

And Third no it should not be called consequence culture.as the fact is they changed the phrasing/term usage while doing the same crude but pulling up things 10 to 15 years ago in some cases 20 to 30 years ago people did just because they don't like the person or want them out .. despite they no longer do nor believe specific things anymore ..If it was carefully done and very limited then sure but as is its not where that fits yet

I'd better duck out of this thread. The GOG forum has always been pretty right-leaning and I've not enough spare spoons to reply to everyone properly.

My stance on Scott Cawthon is that he didn't do anything wrong, but actions still have consequences. If you want to make your politics public you can expect boycotts from some people. Nothing justifies threats though, screw those people. He has not been cancelled, but being harassed is bad.

My stance on Kovarex is that he started a discussion of a very sensitive topic by expressing a worrying and uninformed opinion. Being uninformed isn't unforgiveable, but it requires one to admit the mistake and learn from it. From what I saw, he dug his heels in, but if he has had a change of heart I'd like to know.

Have fun folks!

Why would they coin a derogatory term against themselves? Hm.

I think before we delve too deeply in examples, there are plenty of them currently about the right cancelling things heavy handedly. So no, it's not a leftist mob rule thing, it's a wider phenomena. Which shouldn't even be called cancel culture.

It's literally about accountability for one's words and actions. Something that's been severely lacking in most parts.

First because when they started it .. Its basically like anything else .. they use it .. but then drop it when the term they was using became too loaded of a term from there actions while using it

Second the piont you are making there is similar but different in a way as most right-winger and conservative examples I get tossed my way is from when rightwingers from the 80's and 90's which back then the term was puritans and moral busy bodies .. But both those terms are loaded now that one one really wants to use those because of how bad the terms wraps are given do to actions

Third it still is not about accountability for one's words and actions.when people go back 10 ,15,20, 30 and more years of stuff that was iether okay back then or simple mistakes that or people changed and know better thus don't do it anymore.. that is not accountability that is demonizing and outrage for stupid crude that doesn't matter anymore.. In most cases that is ..

Probably a good time to abandon the GD forums altogether. I had the same sensible opinion as daysofyore and posted earlier. Yet for some reason, I was blindly neg bombed from high rated in a matter of minutes in realtime while writing responses on cancel culture. Now I can fully appreciate why the GD forum community is so incredibly poor. These reppers are more emotional than teenagers going through puberty.

I don't know what exactly happened 10,15,23 or 30 years ago. None of that seems relevant.

What's relevant is that Scott chose to publicly donate the maximum amount to people and entities that hated and actively worked against the interests of many of Scott's fans. This hypocritical behaviour cost him the support of those fans, and they criticised Scott for it. That's completely justified - there is no cancellation in this process (I explained already in my first post here how free he is still to do whatever he wants). It is however about having accountability of one's actions and words, and about consequences.

The weaponised trolls and kids who doxxed him as a joke are reprehensible, the same way as Fauci is now the boogeyman for a scientist expert that saves lives, yet has to have permanent security around him and his family for his words and actions. Saving lives. Yet getting death threats. Crazy. Also disgusting.

I think it's easy for everyone to condemn the extremes, the troll armies and whatnot. But what's left are the sensible people and their positions. It's harder to discard them.

Scott never made his politics public. That is open information and anyone who gives donations to political bodies are registered on a publicly accessible list. That information was diged up by the nut jobs at Twitter who where sniffing for another target for there little crusade.

You've literally just explained that donating is a public act. Please don't @ me again, as I said I'm done with the thread.

Thats the probkem here you and me atleast agree in this message here .. but we disagree on other factors as thanks to idiots who went overboard far too much like other things in most movements or attempts it makes cancel culture or as you want it called '''accountability ''for things said or done by people not a viable thing at all to defend or be a part of its why I don't get in any movement or group as whole.. I have seen far too many go overboard and lose the plot or became a variant of what they was against.. Thus my annoyance when people defend movements and sides that has went way way too far in actions ..

You claimed Scott made his own politics public, which Yeshu explained is another of your falsehoods. If you really mean that you're done here, then you should accept that you're not going to have the last word while we tear your lies to pieces.

Mmmhmm, "lies". Donating is a public act, choosing to donate is choosing to make your allegiances public.
I don't want the last word, if you stop @-ing me like I asked then I wouldn't be here replying to you. Do whatever you like with my words, just stop prodding me. I cannot be clearer about this.

It doesn't mean he is politicaly on that side.. it could just be he believes that side was the better option at the time similar to donating to charity a person can donate to a cause they don't agree with .. but believing the donations will help people in need.. There are plenty of people like that in this world ..

RE: Factorio

Considering gog have proven themselves time and time again to be the most feeble, weak-kneed cowards on the block, does that mean they will remove Factorio from the store any time soon? Place your bets!
