Don't buy it just for that. Regardless of what you think about it's creator, Factorio stands on it's own as a good game. So good in fact, that I had to delete it from the hard drive because I lost the track of time while playing it.

I think you're confusing two different things here. It sounds like he was a victim of harassment, which is a completely different thing from "being cancelled".
If Scott Cawthorn was finding his games were being removed from Steam or that he suddenly wasn't getting hired for something then that would be an example of being cancelled. There's nothing to suggest that was happening or going to happen, so this has nothing to do with being cancelled.
That is not to say I support him being harassed, I just think people shouldn't throw around buzzwords because they will lose all meaning.

Harrassment and cancel Culture goes hand in hand to the degree they have become blurred together as heres the thing in a case like this game creator cancel culture digs up things thats been known about or not cared about till recentally and go on a warpath to iether end the persons future prospects from places not wanting to deal with the hate they might get from people..Aswell as hide a persons involvement or even sneakly edit a person out of stuff... to make them off themselves or get everything they can pulled of the person .. Easy on the accusations there. That is because the term "statutory rape" is not a uniform thing in legal systems all over the world. Especially in Europe, many countries just have rape and nothing else. Automatically assuming that something that is true in the US is true in the entire world is simply wrong. And as the dev is from one of those countries, he just had no idea that was a thing so wrongly assumed it was a newly coined term. Being unaware of a legal term in a "distant" country is one thing, but immediately jumping to the conclusion that he is pro-rape and starting a witch-hunt over it is exactly the kind of thing that is wrong with today's internet society.

I have little doubt as to the game's quality.....if I do buy it, it'd be because of that as well as the recent words/actions of the dev.

Sidenote: usually i'm not into the genre Factorio is in as much as others, and usually don't spend so much on a single game, but I am thinking of doing so in this case.

Ummm, no. He's not a native English speaker and in the Czech Republic statutory rape is called sex with minors essentially.

What he though was statutory rape was an adult teacher seducing an adult student. The advantage in power the teacher has makes it pretty bad but probably not rape. In any case that's not what statutory rape is and he clears up that he is wholly against sex with minors later on when he understands the term. Of course places like resetEra conviently leave that part of the conversation out.
