One word: L-O-L

Well, looks like the game gave me yet another laugh and put a smile on my face again.

Mr.Mumbles: The one nice thing about the bungled-up release that Cyberpunk was: It made me appreciate the appearance of Horizon: Zero Dawn that much more. Now there's a splendid open-world game. ;)
If you dig playing a reskinned Tomb Raider as a "from ages 0 and up" riskless console release with robots instead of animals.

Yep, they paid for a lot of reviews and awards and such like. It’s apparently quite common for the industry. Check out the reviews on metacritic for instance.

Not just game companies, but others as well.....like the(in)famous "JD Power awards" for vehicles, and a decent amount of "expert reviews" on Rotten Tomatoes.

Agreed. That's the nice thing I have to say about CP: It helped me to confirm easily those payola news/revs/awards sources that Warcraft III: Reforged brought earlier during 2020
And indirectly that drove me to realize the GOG forums... thanks Cyberpunk 2077!! :)

Back in the day PC Magazine would list all the adverts by company and it would always closely correlate with the awards given.

It also isn't GTA Trilogy "Definitive" Edition

It's like everyone in the industry is trying to outsleaze each other. If anyone did have the audacity to set a good example they'd probably get whacked. ;p

Speaking of.....nowadays (from my cursory glances at such peridicals) it seems like 1/3 of said publications are ads. And yeah.....a number of em still seem to be for companies they're reviewing, companies they're going to review, or companies tied to the companies from the former two categories.

Probably (in part) to make money for their "beloved" share holders. Going public (In countries where said companies are required to maximize profits for said shareholders) is probably one of the biggest mistakes a company can make.....that, and taking advantage of vultur...err venture capital.

Odd you mention this: I saw a thread for this collection on /v/ yesterday, where someone was making fun of how a bug/glitch from the original games* is still in the new version(s)...made me chuckle a bit when I saw it.

I wonder how Sony feels about that? lol

Eh awards are less than useless, especially game awards granted by "game journalists" who seem to be the least qualified people in the world to judge a game on its merits. Its no wonder "movie" games have become increasingly more popular.

I really dont know how video game awards caught on to be honest. They might have some legitimacy if they were judged by the top people of the industry for artistic or technological merit such as innovative art style, NPC or enemy AI, innovative combat system, innovative immersion, etc. Actually recognize and reward developers for doing a good job pushing the medium and making games more immersive and enjoyable with their work. These awards should recognize the people who usually go unappreciated for their hard work so they get their moment to shine (hence why the oscars have best CGI, best animation, best costume design).

Instead we have a bunch of yahoos awarding games for being popular.

Cyberpunk 2077 it's pretty and has an outstanding soundtrack, at least in that department they deserve an award.
Also, the game is fun, disappointing but fun, has a varied amount of missions, the heart to heart conversations are super well done, you feel the emotion between the characters, when the game shines the most is when slows down. The cinematics are really well developed to, except the sex scenes, those are just fucking awful, they tried to make the game don't look like a virtual porn game in first persons, so they use a nauseating editing to cover it up. But yes, definitively is a good game, but the shadow of what could have been is present through all the game.

Awards are great, like with film they highlight those things you should not waste your time with.
