The game is Salt and Sanctuary</span>
Do you love Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? How about Metroidvania games in general? Do you fancy yourself a fan of Dark Souls? If the answer to both of these questions is "yes" then you should check this game out. It is a little shorter than the awesome games that inspired it, but it is quality throughand through.

You are a bodyguard for the princess (this is literally about all you're given at the beginning of the game) and when your ship is destroyed by an unknown eldritch horror, you find yourself washed ashore an island where death is frequent and meaningless. The challenge is intense, the atmosphere is bleak and the exploration is rewarding.

Well, my answer is no to both, but I still want to check it out. It looks really fun.

Dark Souls 1 is one of the worst games ever, as I mention in other posts, so the mere mention of that in combination with another game is enough to put me off. However I do like metroid games, so may look at it if it comes here at a reasonable price.
So is the game any good?

Seems to be, yes. The various games and genres OP listed describe S&S quite well. It also has local ( and online? ) co-op.
Voted, definitely. Fingers crossed that it comes here.
Salt and Sanctuary, Diamonds and Rust, whatever.. Voted!

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. However, you're in the minority there, I think. Most people who play Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, and Bloodborne have loved them.
*Voted*

Hoping it comes here soon rather than months/years later.

Indeed, and this is one of the key reasons why I don't bother with mainstream reviews on any site, I just cannot understand why ds1 on the pc is so popular, it is really bad in every way. Never played the other two or on any platform other than pc so cant comment there, simply put the pc version should be punishable by death foe the developers it is so bad.

And just because something is popular doesn't make it good, trump, malaria, man united etc.

Here's Yahtzee's opinion about it, if that's any help.

Not trying to argue with you. I like DS1, a lot. Play it quite a bit even today. More than I ever played DS2 or plan to play DS3 at this point. But again, sorry you got no joy out of it. As far as Salt and Sanctuary goes, this game is pretty damn awesome despite a few small kinks to work out.
Yeah, the game looks interesting. It's out on Steam already, hope they can bring it to GOG also.
I keep thinking Shadow of The Beast 2 for some reason in connection with Salt and Sanctuary. The former isn't rpg by any means, but the vibe in the latter (from what I've seen) is kinda that good dark and gloomy that's so hard to accomplish :)
Gog! You know what to do! :)
