Breja: Yep, Lego is awesome. But I think it's much more fun to build your own stuff rather than the pre-made sets. How about ? With Smaug and everything. Or Orthank?

And I agree, no computer game could replace it, at least not for me. Besides, I spend enough time in front of my computer, so it's good to do something else.

Matewis: Awesome, are those yours? The themes I'm really interested in are the regular city theme, the old castle theme (looks like you have a few of those), the pirate theme and the Star Wars theme. A few of the old space themes were also really cool, like the mtron faction.
I also used to build my own stuff, but I always built the sets first. Eventually I always got desperate enough for more pieces which lead to total disassembly. But I never had enough pieces to really go nuts. What I'd like is to one day have enough pieces so that I can use the various sets as inspiration and build cool stuff like this. I have some major plans :)
those pictures brought back some serious memories. i loved the m-tron & blacktron space theme and the early 90s castle theme was dope as well.

Matewis: Aw man please tell me you didn't get the Barracuda! If you did I hate you :D
I didn't :D Actually now that I look at it, I think what I had might have actually been the same Imperial Flagship you did. It looks kinda similiar to the pirate one from the other picture, and mine has been disassembled for many, many years now, so I'm not entirely sure.

Matewis: Yeah there are a lot of themes I don't really care about. There's even a Minecraft theme! Of the new themes I only really like the Star Wars one. But even though a lot of pieces have unique bits, I think mostly it is still standard bricks that can be reused. At least for the city series and most of the Star Wars series. In that fire station set for example: except for a few pieces, I recognize every single piece from my childhood days. The only piece that's really unique in that, and that might not find much use elsewhere is the ladder on the fire engine. And in the 3 star wars sets I bought, I don't think any contained even one non-standard brick.
I actually started out trying to build my own Star Wars stuff before I got the LotR ones. I managed a pretty decent X-Wing and a (rather small) Star Destroyer.

Maybe my impression of the Star Wars stuff is colored by what I've seen at my friends house- they're really into Star Wars and have plenty of this stuff, including a huge Millenium Falcon which looks very "specialised", and in general they just kinda buy those expensive sets, put them together as per instructions and keep them behind glass :P It feels very un-lego like. Could as well be any kind of Star Wars models.

adaliabooks: Damn that brings back memories :D
We had the castle stuff, and some slightly newer ones I think (I don't think the dragons were from that set were they?), the M-Tron space stuff (and some other space ones, not sure which though Edit: oh, underwater stuff.
The dragons were introduced, I think, with the dragon knights sets in the castle series in the early 90s, but some of the later castle series sets also had dragons.
Oh yes I remember that first one. That was from some sort if ice planet faction or something. A buddy of mine had several of those. It was the only one thing among his considerable collection of toys cooler than his tmnt2 nes cartridge!

toxicTom: Valentine's day goes back to the Roman festival of Lupercalia (which was on Feb 15th). The origins of that one are lost in time, but it probably derives from a mix of Etruscan traditions, Greek celebrations surrounding Pan and the founding myths of Rome (Wolf-feast, from Romulus and Remus feeding off a she-wolf's milk).
If my High School religion teacher wasn't lying to me all those years ago, they would whip each other with entrails!

That's one hell of a celebration!

Also, hi Tom.

I'm sure we had loads of the castle / robin hood stuff of various ages. They were great sets.

It was pretty great that one, though I think the M-Tron ones were my favourite. I remember having the big one with the magnet crane.
Hours of fun! :D

Yep, mine too. Last I checked it had a computer panel where the wheel should be. Also, for the record, that boat does not float! Though I had a duplo boat that did.

Weirdly I wasn't a Star Wars fan yet in my lego building days as a kid, but I'm sure I would've tried to build an X-wing as well if I had been. Or perhaps more realistically, a T-47 airspeeder.
I also plan to be pretty look-don't-touch with my lego room one day, but only for people other than me. When I'm alone I'm going to crank up John Williams and have me an epic Hoth battle :D

Crosmando: Valentine's is evil, it's the only holiday that actively discriminates against a certain group of people (singles).
Let's remove this offensive day, I'm feeling oppressed !

LOL... hi Ixamyakxim

In Italy the goat-god was also the giver of fertility, and originated among the Ligurians. Juno was closely associated with the goat, and some of her fertility rites were added by the Romans to the Lupercalia: the Luperci girded themselves with goat-skins and, as they ran about the Palatine, struck the women with goatskin thongs as a fertility charm. Henceforth the gift of fertility was one of the important purposes of the Lupercalia.
