No matter what faults Fallout 4 may have, it is undeniable that they did an excellent job with the settlement building system. You can construct entire towns and villages from scratch if you are imaginative enough. You can even create multi-storied buildings and impregnable fortresses, and most importantly, you can feel warm and fuzzy inside as you watch the settlements grow and people from the wasteland come to seek shelter there. This is a feature unseen (on this scale) in any other RPG. “Base building” has always been a signature strategy game mechanic. RTS games like the Age of Empires series, the Rise of Nations series, and the Command & Conquer series use this feature exceptionally well. But various RPG titles have been dabbling into the concept of creating and customizing a home or base of operations for a while now. Today, we look at some of the biggest RPG titles that have successfully implemented this feature.
