I really want to play UnderRail. Really, I do. REALLY bad. But I take one look at that game and realize that it would totally consume me. I'm getting older and have things to do. I hardly have time for Darkest Dungeon and Legends of Eisenwald as it is.

Sure you can, it is just a game, no need to go killing anyone over it.

It's new, so not sure when it will go on sale, but of course I understand that. But for what it contains and how great it is, the price is already wayyy cheap and it is worth every penny!!!

I can only echo what's already been said: UnderRail is a great game, and I'd highly recommend it to any fan of old-school RPGs. It does have a few flaws and quirks, but once you get the hang of how the game works, it turns into a very fun and addictive experience.

Good thread. I really want to play it but no money no UnderRail. And my backlog is full too. So I just wishlisted it and I will buy it in the next (big) sale. UR is priority in my wishlist. Thanks for this topic and provided details.

There has already been a BUNCH of patching. I think Styg should get a reward for "RPG developer that has patched their game the fastest!!" From my understanding it's pretty much good-to-go at this point, which is crazzzy for how elaborate the game is and how close to release we still are.

Ever since the original Fallout got patched after I played halfway through it and then I lost my saves due to compatibility with the patch, I've not played RPGs upon release. I usually wait for a handful of patches and read about the patching to make sure it's to a point where I want to play (not even for save compatibility, but because I am a completionist and every dialogue tree, mini-quest, loot container, everything, matters to me to be in working order.)

I started UnderRail knowing I wanted it patched more, but also knowing I was probably going to spend 5-10 hours replaying the beginning to get a feel for the mechanics and figure out my build, so I went ahead and did that knowing I'd just start over once it did get to a patch point I was comfortable with. This last patch (there have been 10, btw) took it to a point where I was finally like "okay! yes! I can continue on from the beginning area now!" Of course I still started over (last night, which is what made me make this thread.)

All patches have not messed up the save-files either, and I doubt they will in the future. If things do get patched, it is probably later game stuff that you won't even have gotten to after 30+ hours of play, and so it could be inconsequential if you start the game sooner rather than later (and at the rate of patch releases, you're probably good to go.) Just giving my input, as, I totally understand the desire to wait for in-depth patching before playing RPGs! No rush for you to play it, of course!

I've not touched PoE beyond character creation because I'm still waiting for it to be patched to a point I'm comfortable with. AND, on top of that, I'm not going to play it at all until the 2nd expansion has been patched to my liking AND I get both expansions (I don't have either, because, no rush at all and no $ to.)

I stopped my Wasteland 2 DC playthrough as well because I'm waiting for its patches too.

Well, you can tell it's a low-budget production, for one thing. There isn't really a fancy intro, no voice acting, and I thought the music is kind of mediocre ( not bad, just not very memorable, and some of it feels repetitive after a while ). It's also easy to get lost/stuck early on, and some of the game systems seem unnecessarily complex, such as the trading or crafting. Others have also criticized its writing, at least when compared to the classic Fallout games and other classic RPGs. ( Haven't played long enough yet, to judge that particular aspect. ) Oh yeah, and combat can be pretty tough at times, so there's a lot of re-loading and trial and error involved.

Whether these things are a problem is mostly a matter of personal preferences and priorities. Either way, as I said, the game is very enjoyable once you get used to everything. I can also say it's a well polished experience, despite its complexity and low budget/small team. I haven't encountered any noteworthy bugs, and the various HUD elements and menus are easy to understand, and allow for various adjustments/customization.

One tip for new players: If you're using a Full HD display ( 1080p ) I recommend setting the game resolution to 1360 x 768. At 1080p most of the in game text etc. is much too small, and most of the other resolutions didn't work well ( at least on my screen and GPU combo ). You can also increase the size of text and other HUD elements via the options menu.

Well, that's just disappointing. They re-released it as a new, improved ( and more expensive ) version and it's still loaded with bugs?
