"Robotech"... usually anything with Robotech in the name is bad news... just hope that it will mean that it will now be easier to have newer Macross stuff released outside of japan. (Or it could be the start of a new legal battle.)
I prefer the Macross series' story to the weird mishmash that was Robotech. Plus, I'm upset at Harmony Gold handling of the mecha's images outside of Japan which means we can't have any of the Macross series in the U.S., nor can we get a re-release of Mechwarrior 1 or 2.

give over
without robotech stitching together macross southern cross and mosepaeda those series would never have left japan
and we would never have even heard of those series
let alone see them
I see Harmony Gold continues to leech money from companies without doing anything themselves.

They're the patent trolls of anime and mech stuff.

i do understand the macross robotech dilema, but snowkatt makes a very good point, i hardly doubt that macross and other anime since would have come to america if it was not for harmony gold and other companies

i watched both versions and i stay with robotech, maybe is nostalgia or maybe because the name rick hunter is so cool that transcends cheesyness haha
Loved the first season of Robotech, sure it was a bit weird and cut and pasted and stuff, and the singing montages were cringeworthy, but it was a lot of fun and a pretty cool idea.
if you think about it, the movie will be close (let´s hope better ) to hunger games, maze runner, divergent in the way that the protagonist are all teenagers when the war starts
Never been a fan. But i do love Macross series. Except Macross 7/Dynamite, the series is quite good and i recommend it to anyone that likes mecha.
I just hope now I can buy Macross crap.

Since Pacific Rim and Transformers, I'm begging for more mecha live-action movies. (If you know some, feel free to recommend them)

The Verge says that Michael Gordon (300, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra) is writing the script for the movie, let's hope Sony comes up with something good.

Maybe for Southern Cross and Mospeada, but given its popularity Macross would have appeared outside of Japan sooner and later.

But my resentment against Robotech is not because of it's existence or what happened 20+ years ago but more because of Harmony Gold actions around it that completely screwed up Macross releases outside japan.

Me too. I just love giant robot and monster films. The film can be as crap as it wants I'll still enjoy it. :)
So I'd like recommendations too since it's way hard to find more films like that.
