God damn it. When I mentioned this to my colleague (who is considerably younger than me), he seemed a bit "Huh? Who?". Mentioning "Blade Runner" seemed to ring a bell a bit for him, but still he didn't seem to be sure who the F I was talking about.

I asked him to watch The Hitcher (the 1986 version, years before that colleague was even born) and tell me how he likes the movie.

Damn whippersnappers, not recognizing legendary actors and movies from the 80s.

I second "FLesh and Blood". It a very good, gritty, historical film that always gets marketed on home video as a fantasy. Guess they are aiming for the Ladyhawke fans. Boy, will they be in for a shock......let's just say the level of violence in the film is much greather then it is in Ladyhawke.

Damn, I forgotten he was the first Big Bad of them all in the Buffy movie, but then , let's face it, the BTVS movie is not very good,Josh Whedon felt they butchered his script and ideas. Not Hauer's falt it was something of a misfire.

Also liked his corporate slime in "Batman Begins".


But I could argue his best work was in his early Dutch films with Verhoeven, like "Soldier of Orange".

I'll say it again, without Rutger Hauer, Blade Runner would merely be an okay-ish attempt at interbreeding sci-fi and neo noir with some really impressive production design. It was Rutger Hauer who gave this movie a heart and soul, which made it become the classic it is today.

Such a great actor, so many great movies! It's a shame he never got around to making another movie with Verhoeven (Turks Fruit is great, BTW! Everyone should see it!). I'll miss him.
Indeed he did it! And as you wrote it, he raised up the whole movie to a new level with his amazing performance and unforgettable speech.
And, of course, Vangelis music.

Man, that sucks. RIP. So many great movies with him. I own Blind Fury on DVD & just literary last night was watching Hobo With a Shotgun (fantastic 80s styled B-Movie grindhouse schlock) & Flesh+Blood (very underrated medieval movie). There's so many great movies with him that stand the test of time. A shame we won't get any more. What a bummer...

One of my biggest/worst fears is being the LAST of my family to go and having next to no one mourn me or care about it happening. :\

Yep, I understand that.

One of my worst fears is dropping dead leaving my mother and sister behind to fend for themselves, They both wouldn't be able to take it.

Whats the B movie Rutger Hauer was in that takes place in a cyberpunk setting... hes a mercenary or bounty hunter, ex law enforcement maybe and wears a trenchcoat? I remember him sleeping in a chair.
