With the mods gone, it hasn't taken long at all for this forum to descend into a complete cesspool. The apparent catalyst for this has provoked a strong reactionary response, with many long-time posters revealing some extremely ugly views regarding various minority groups. Any notion that this forum is a comfortable place to chew the fat with people who share your interests has disappeared, replaced with a minefield of political bullshit.

Honestly, I'm disappointed. Some posters were always lost causes, but seeing users who I enjoyed talking to express such vitriol towards Jews, trans people, women, and god knows who else has just poisoned any enjoyment this forum offered. Plus, the ever-present and terrible rep system never fails to highlight which views are favoured, with many expressions of outright bigotry rising to the top while contrary views are buried.

I've resisted feeling that the GOG forums were past saving for a long time, but I can't defend them anymore. I'm out folks.

Maybe I'll mention that this problem seems to be contained to the General Discussion forum. Maybe try the game specific forums? (The only time I ran into such issues on a game-specific forum was on the Baldur's Gate forum around the time of the release of Siege of Dragonspear.)

Isn't it a bit of a transition phase (gog is made of transition phases) between moderated and moderated, with a temporary eclipse during which the worst usual creeps engulfed the forums ?

My suggestion would be to consider this as a short-ish temporary chaos and expecting thing to come back soon to the linko/fables moderated state.

The forum has never changed. Something happens, a group of people gets pissed off, another group of people gets pissed off that the first group got pissed off, and the rest of us are leaning slightly to one side or another.

Perhaps if you think GOG is such a terrible place, then a break is indeed needed. I frequently take breaks for periods of up to 6 months at a time. Things never really change here, though. Also, if I was one of the people that said something you didn't like, I'm sorry.

What kills me is that no one can discuss, with or without the moderation. It's always a cesspool of hate, like the OP of this topic.

I finally decided to take the forum as-is. Am I happy all the time I read stuff here? No, but.... I can't change anyone's minds on here, and I refuse to stay away from GOG because of people on the forum I don't care for.

There is a reason why a lot of forum bans all discussion about politics or religion; even years ago, before tings become so polarized, those discussion rarely ended well.
