Evolutionary Professor Richard Dawkins and game developer Gordon Ross (GTA) have just started a Kickstarter campaign for a game focusing on evolution.

So, basically a complex autonomous "game of life" where, instead of having a global overview, you have to go explore it bit by bit from within ?

I'm skeptical about the gameplay, but it's an interesting angle, that avoid the usual trap of player input defeating the model ("biological evolution" games usually put the players in the role of an "intelligent designer", just like "political evolution" games keep the player in the role of an autocrat). The trick is to put the players in a realistic position of observer, while still giving them something to do. I'm not sure a game can reach this balance, entertainment-wise.

But let's see how this goes.

Unrelated uninteresting fact : I always pictured Marvin the Paranoid Android as C3PO-shaped.
He was great in "Hogan's Heroes". :P

The 3 creatures games did something like that.

They should really work out something better and more impressive to show on that page than those shapeless colofull blobs.
Hm. I'd be more inclined to support say, James Randi or some nicer skeptic.
Hrm.. It seems kickstarter projects usually either get a massive funding influx in the first few days to a week that gets them really going, then gather publicity that might ramp it up higher until the incoming tapers off slowly toward the end. There are other patterns too, but this one seems to be the most common I believe. Unfortunately, for all-or-nothing crowdfunding projects like this if they don't get a significant shot in the arm during the first few days they taper off and never reach their targets usually. Doing the math it seems like this is likely to fail unless they do some big publicity boost to garner interest and support.

Hope they reach their target, but I'm skeptical looking at the current rate of funding that is incoming.

I always loved him on the Family Feud.
The game seems to be subscription-based, it says nothing about you getting a copy of the game once it's done. At least I can't find any information about this.

I get the what the concept of the game is, but it's unclear what the actual game components will be in practical terms.
They need to put more details up of what the gameplay will be like. Right now they seem to be pushing the game based on the fame of Professor Dawkins alone, but I don't think that is enough to motivate enough gamers to support this project.
Well it sounds like No Man's Sky II: Evolution.
Let's see what will it like.
I wish there was a remake of sim earth
I've seen some things that looked Doomed To Fail, but its been awhile since I've seen anything that has screamed it as clearly as the description on this kickstarter.

Its like these two guys got together and said "Hey, lets make a really popular video game about evolution! How hard can it be, right?"

It sounds more like they want to make a simulation of evolutionary theory, so it can be observed how lifeforms change over time. Not much of a game. Sounds pretty interesting I gotta say.

If its a game, bill it as a game. If its a simulation, then bill it as such.

Considering it just as a simulator, then yeah, it may have some interesting things to show. A lot of that will depend on how the modeling/evolution mechanics work. Based on Dawkins' reputation, I have the suspicion they might be...skewed.
