There seems to be a lack of racing, specially of "simulation" type games on GOG. While I understand they are probably "too niche", there is a big disparity of genres (very towards Platform/Adventure/rRPG's, old or newer indie titles).

Probably we will never get popular Codemasters games, like Dirt, F1 or Grid franchise. Personally, have no interest in games that don't need braking, like Need for Speed, unless is Flatout or Carmaggedon with friends :D

Live for Speed is old and still active but has DRM, is a real blast to play even with controller or keyboard/mouse, runs beautifully on any machine and is being updated constantly, probably no licensing issues.
Then there is a huge demand for Richard Burns Rally, the 15 year old title many people still consider one of the best Rally simulators to date. The only place to get this game is to buy old physical copies with inflated prices due the demand. This game would be perfect for GOG, with the huge mod community to support it.

Total Immersion Racing, I spent so many hours tweaking the cars on this game, came free on a magazine.

So very many of them have car brand or music licensed and when those licenses run out after 7-15 years they are seldom economically feasible renewing.

The first GRiD game actually was on GOG for some time. If I am not mistaken, it was removed because the license for the cars expired. It was also removed from sale on Steam at about the same time.

So possibly, the reason there are so few racing games on GOG is not so much that it is too niche, but rather that it is difficult to sell older racing games due to expired licenses of included cars (and music).

I would very much appreciate more racing games on GOG.

Grid used to be for sale here. It was removed. Some of us (including myself) picked it up before removal. Maybe it will be back, along with other good racing games.

Some Colin McRae or something was here too.

Old Colin McRae games would be great, V-Rally and other rally games that I can't think of right now!

Colin McRae 2.0 or Dirt 2 would be good on GOG but due to expired licenses it will be almost impossible.
I also agree that would be nice more racing games on GOG.

I can only think that licensing is WAYYYY more expensive than it used to be back in the day.
Live for Speed has a couple of real cars, including some BMW racing models and is the only "simulator" I can think of that mostly uses non real models.
The Simbin games Gt Legends and GTR2 are still sold on Steam, so I guess licensing is not a problem there (yet...), being old games would be a perfect fit on GOG.

Still available legally (I guess?) on ZOOM Platform, along with the old Duke Nukem games that used to be on here (no Balls of Steel though, sadly), as well as TrickStyle (also formerly sold here).

It probably was never cheap and it could be that for each sold copy the IP holders expect to be compensated by some minimum amount of money that may easily be so close to what most people are willing to pay for an old game that there is no profit to be made for the publisher after the taxes and GOG's or even Epic's cut has been taken out.

There's always been less interest in preserving older racing games and I feel like it's because as a genre it's sort of like Madden or whatever, you'd probably just default to playing the new one. It's not like preserving Baldur's Gate, which has a unique story and such. That's just a guess though.

Amazing how Colin McRae 2.0 still plays very well. I've played this to death on the Ps1 and recently gave another try.
