Any chance that we'll see the character limit of reviews for each specific game be expanded, or lifted entirely? I beat Hob twice recently, and wrote my review, but couldn't fit in even half of what I wished to relay to any potential customers. I had to choose to either truncate things down to the point of coming across as a caveman, or just write a few solid points. Would have been nice to go in on as to the technical issues it was suffering, but I opted to speak more about the puntual points of the games content due to limited wiggle room.

Wow six years later yet still they have not fixed this issue. Who in their right minds thinks 2000 characters--that's characters, not words--is sufficient for most people to express thoughts in a review? That's barely enough for one short paragraph, two at the most. I too cannot even post half of my review within this limit. And it's not like my review is crazy long--it's roughly the same length as most of the other reviews on the platform that were written before an arbitrary character limit was implemented. Just 4 or 5 paragraphs to discuss a nuanced take on the game--the critiques, the positives, and the conclusion.

Yeah, it does suck. Being forced to use abbreviations and to cut out parts of the review just to fit an arbitrary character limit is pretty bad.

I can understand some limit, but make it 5000 at least. I doubt that a potential couple thousand more characters per review will result in much higher space requirements for GOG servers.

It also sucks how GOG doesn't make 5+ year old threads more obvious to the viewer.

But yes, the limit is one of the reasons why I don't leave reviews more often, that and the complete inability to track them. I've reviewed around 50 games, and I couldn't tell you which 50.

The last time I did write a review here on GOG, I had to contact support, to demand the removal of personal information that got displayed alongside my review.
Personal information, that I am not willing to share.
And since I don't want to risk to have to do that again (and possibly even with each new review), I don't write reviews, anymore.

But...if you're keen on sharing your thoughts on a game and you don't want to be hindered by the arbitrary "max. review length of 2000 characters", simply post your "longer than 2000 characters" reviews in the particular games' subforums (best to mark it in the title as "review"), and then put the link to that review in the actual review section of the game's store page.
Maybe accompanied with a short explanantion: "since GOG doesn't allow for reviews with more than 2000 characters, I put my review in the subforum [link to review]".

That way, you can share your thoughts on any game, without being hindered by the arbitrary "max. review length of 2000 characters", AND you can even do something, that the review section does not allow at all: edit your review(s) at a later time.

Sure, that solution requires two steps (post review in the subforum AND posting a link in the review section), where one should suffice (simply put review in the review section), but I think it's actually a pretty good solution.

It's still relevant. Doesn't really matter if you bump an old thread or make a new one. Maybe not creating a new thread will allow GOG's servers to handle 2003 character limit for reviews thanks to the saved space :P

Heh, how many times I complained about this. And there have been a handful of similar topics since this one.
Before the redesign there was a way to trick the system to accept reviews regardless of size, but since then, nope. So also haven't posted any since, of course. All but a few quick ones I just posted on my blog as little comments on a game exceed that character limit. And about a third of all the game reviews I ever wrote have more than 2000 words, not just characters.

I had problems in some of my reviews too, so I had to write the text as if coded! This is the case especially when there are multiple games in the same GOG page (e.g. Dungeon Siege games). 2000 letters, including spaces, for multiple games is hard!
On the other hand, I disagree with overly long reviews. You have to let something for the player to find out for himself too!

If we have to keep it to characters, 5000 seems like a reasonable limit. I usually can fit everything I'd want to say into 3000-3500. But 2000 is restritcingly low.

But I doubt GOG is going to do anything about it at this point.

I was sure it was longer. I haven't had to write something that long in a while.
When estimating how many 'pages' a text may have (as if it were a printed book) 1500-2000 per page is a good estimate; Course add formatting and add 25% on that.
