Capcom and GOG strike again: this time around to reveal the re-release date of the original Resident Evil™ 2!

Capcom's Resident Evil™ series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. Now, it’s time for the second installment of the series to join its predecessor in the grand re-release.

Just like with Resident Evil, we made sure GOG's version of the second entry in the series is the best it can be. You can expect a variety of quality of life improvements, compatibility with modern systems, full modern controllers support, and even more.

That being said, we’re happy to announce that the original Resident Evil 2 is officially re-releasing on August 27th, 8 AM UTC!

Wishlist it now, and get ready for even more horror!

Was wondering why that tweet suddenly disappeared, someone jumped the gun sounds like.

(and it was still tagged as "soon" on the account page, etc)

And I bet the time someone accidentally posted the Kanban board got into a lot of trouble with a lot of people at once.

Let's see, we're still missing Cultic, Core Keeper, SCP, HumanitZ, but it looks like everything else on that board is at least posted as "Soon*" or has actually released.

*Though, you and I both know, dear reader: That GOG's definition of "Soon" is worthless and unaccountable.
Been looking forward to this and the original Resident Evil 3 the most since they announced it. I'm happy to treat the 2002 Resident Evil remake as the definitive version, as it retains the fixed camera angles and gameplay loop. However, as much as I enjoyed the RE2 remake (and the RE3 remake to a lesser degree), they'll never replace the originals given the shift to third-person, the watered down A/B scenarios, and lack of Nemesis decision moments.

Dear GOG,

you cannot just reveal the release date like that. You have to reveal the date of the release date reveal first! ;)

"Resident Evil</i> 2"

Oh no! I see that Umbrella Corp is experimenting with HTML again.
You guys are the best! Thank you for bringing us the RE classics back!! No remake can ever substitute the orginals.

If you need ideas for future Capcom releases: Mega Man X 4 (in my opinion the best one of the Mega Man X series, because here you play as Zero) and Dino Crisis.

Oh well, I though that it was going to be released today. Shame, but hey. next week it sounds cool.
I would suggest to add a release year (1999) to the title to avoid confusions with remake :)

Glad to see it finally have a release date, looking forward to it!
I been really looking forward to Resident Evil 2. Although I did start with the original Resident Evil like many old fans. My passion for the franchise actually started with Resident Evil 2. Not only one of my absolute favorite PS1 games. But also one of my favorite Capcom video games ever!!! Resident Evil 2 was truly mind blowing for it's era. You got so much content to keep you busy for hours.

Resident Evil 2 is a great two disc game. This is based on the later DualShock Edition. Which actually was the first version I played. I did play the original PS1 version growing up as well. This felt like what a sequel should be. Nearly everything about it doubled with such greatness. Resident Evil 2 is a game that really needed to be on GOG. You just aren't living if you haven't played this!!!
My favorite resident evil. To bad the remake cut alot things.

Upcoming? The Resident Evil 2 Remake was released in 2019, that's 5 years ago...
