Capcom and GOG strike again: this time around to reveal the re-release date of the original Resident Evil™ 2!

Capcom's Resident Evil™ series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. Now, it’s time for the second installment of the series to join its predecessor in the grand re-release.

Just like with Resident Evil, we made sure GOG's version of the second entry in the series is the best it can be. You can expect a variety of quality of life improvements, compatibility with modern systems, full modern controllers support, and even more.

That being said, we’re happy to announce that the original Resident Evil 2 is officially re-releasing on August 27th, 8 AM UTC!

Wishlist it now, and get ready for even more horror!

erbello: I would suggest to add a release year (1999) to the title to avoid confusions with upcoming remake :)

Prah: Upcoming? The Resident Evil 2 Remake was released in 2019, that's 5 years ago...
You are right. The "upcoming" word came here by an unfortunate mistake.
Somehow I was thinking about Silent Hill 2 Remake maybe :)
Thank you for noticing it :)

I said it before, and I will say it again now (and probably for a long ass time): THANK YOU, GOG, FOR DOING THIS!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!
And what does this version have that the Classic REbirth version doesn't have?! The first RE has worked like a charm for years with the Classic REbirth patch, so I saw no good reason to buy the GOG version, which basically uses the "dxcfg" wrapper and nothing else.

All thanks to Gemini REbirth! A man at the forefront of true preservation. ;)

if GOG does a good job, will not have to deal with troubleshooting or applying the mod to make it work. Last time I used Rebirth, it kept crashing at a certain point. Good thing I figured out the issue. Supporting having more Capcom classes release on GOG.

Also, not having to illegally download the Japanese version to play it.

An official, legal release for one. 99.999% of people playing the sourcenext games aren't playing it legally and we all know it. If the version GOG got a hold of isn't enough, you're free to close a deal with CAPCOM and Sourcenext yourself.
Looking forward to this one. Played the PC version through all scenarios and orders as well as going for top ranks....... can't wait to get back into this to see how badly I I have fell since then :)
Is this going to be another lackluster version, like the the RE 1 version on GOG is?

Or will this be a definitive version that is definitely the best version possible anywhere on any platform and in any language, and which will contain no missing content whatsoever?

Can someone who is an expert on these games please answer those questions. Thanks.

I don't get this question. These are just ports of the original PC releases to modern hardware, and I don't think there was a release of PS1 Director's Cut for PC.

I fully expect that to be the same for RE2 - just the vanilla RE2: Platinum with support for modern systems.

Remember, this is about having a legitimate way to buy the classic PC games in the modern day. The ISOs for PlayStation are everywhere if that's what you're looking for - this is a whole other animal.
Nice.
In terms of content, Resident Evil 2: Platinum offers both the original japanese difficulty (Original Mode) and the international difficulty (Arrange Mode), in addition of a new Hard difficulty for both modes when you beat the game.

At last! Looking forward to next week. :)
Would be really impressive to if during these deals the company would have bought one of the original wrist watches made for the series of games.

I miss my Rebecca Chambers medical watch :(

If yer curious, it was an official watch series custom crafted only in Japan.

I went and checked it out. For 12k I had expected more.

Actually paid a little under $400 at the time it first existed on the market. But not sure what the conversion was exactly.

What happened was, it took so long to get via a native japanese source, that after around 2 months of waiting. I lost my job. Which was a problem. I had to sell a lot of my stuff for quick cash and it was then, the watch came in. Figured a roof over my head was more important than a luxury watch on my wrist. Sold it and was even more depressed than losing my job. I really liked the character and the series of games.

Had no idea people think this is so valuable. Doubt it will sell at that price.
