Eh, when the "victim" turns himself into an asshole, I care less about what support he receives.

lokiracer: My dad purchased a game on the same day I purchased two copies (one for myself and one for my son).

When we tried to play the multiplayer game, it was slightly more difficult to get connected via multiplayer than we expected. The game must be played in single player, then after a while multiplayer can be joined, but I guess it's random who joins you or something. I didn't really look in to it after seeing how complex it was to play multiplayer.

My dad requested a refund and received it.

I requested a refund and was told no.

Is there a reason for the different responses?

skeletonbow: Instead of jumping to conclusions though without knowing why (which it sounds like you want to know why), GOG support is generally quite friendly and helpful, simply contact them again and let them know the full story in detail even if you already have - state that 3 copies of the game were bought, all 3 players did the same thing, your father requested and got a refund, and you requested a refund also and did not and this is discrepancy is unsatisfactory. Request that they give you the same level of support that your father got, or that they explain to you what is uniquely different between his support situation and your own.
Thanks for t he reply and advice.

I've tried communicating with GOG more on the issue but they are no longer responding. My son's situation is slightly different than my dad's and mine. He played for a few minutes while my dad and I researched why multiplayer wasn't an option out of the gate. While I don't agree that the refund for him should be denied, I can understand that he did spend a few minutes playing the game.

Well, gog staff really have no way of knowing that it's your son either. To them, it could be your drunken brother Guiseppe.

Seems fairly logical to me... You bought two copies of the game, your father only bought one.
Looking at it purely from that perspective than you are the far more likely candidate to be trying to game the system than he is, hence his request was granted (which will be purely up to support's discretion as it doesn't fall under any of the categories for a refund really) and yours wasn't.

I'd message support again and explain, you might have better luck.

I think it was quite reasonable of you to ask for a refund in these circumstances, and I don't blame you at all for not knowing about the structure of the game before buying.

However, according to GOG's refund policy, you shouldn't have got a refund and neither should your Dad. If you both downloaded it and it runs on your machines you're not eligible for compensation, and the only odd thing here is your Dad somehow got 'lucky' and they bent the rules for him. Sucks in my opinion, but I think that's the explanation.

It doesn't matter whether you played the game, just that you downloaded it. From your description it sounds like your dad shouldn't have gotten a refund. But maybe he didn't download his, or maybe he claimed that he couldn't get it to run, or maybe the support person messed up.
Thanks for the input. I'll try contacting GOG again and reexplain the situation.

lokiracer: Either way, Craft the World is a worthless pile.
avatar
almabrds: Maybe that's why you actually want a refund.
You caught me. I played a whole 3 minutes and determined the game wasn't worth it.

Or, I spent 3 minutes trying to figure out why the game doesn't have a multiplayer option in the main menu and then exited.

lokiracer: I never played the game. I installed it, started it, found that multiplayer wasn't an option until after playing single player and quit the game. I guess it's my fault that I didn't know the game menu/options before buying the game? The options that I couldn't have known would be an issue without actually having the game installed?

almabrds: No pimp is right in this case.
You HAD ways to look for more info about Craft the World.
It would be nice if that detail was mentioned in the game page, but they don't have to.
It's not like which platforms the game is compatible with, where it could affect your ability to play a game.
You was lazy and paid the consequence, just that.

That and it does exactly as it's advertised, I don't see the problem with having to play 20 minutes to get MP. Unless...he just doesn't like the game.

almabrds: Also, it doesn't matter if you just started the game and closed 1 sec later.
There's no way we can be sure you're saying the truth.
And could have easily started it outside of galaxy.
