Hi,

I was wondering if Gog might update Homeworld:Emergence so that it can play at 1920*1080 resolutions? it would make a difference. Thanks!

Unlikely. Unlike the first Homeworld game in GOG (and Steam), Emergence is not a remake of the old game, but it is the original, old, Homeworld Cataclysm game, only renamed.

So unless the original Homeworld Cataclysm game (released in the year 2000) supported 1920x1080 (which it probably didn't). or someone has already made a hires/widescreen mod for the game and lets GOG use it free of charge, I don't see it happening.

But the game still works fine, yes? That's all that matters, everything else in this world is irrelevant.

The game works OK. It is just that I would benefit froma better resolution. Still, online, there seems to be a complicated workaround.

I had issues with Homeworld and never could get anywhere in it so I have no way of checking. Does look like the fix is pretty clear though.

1. Go to the game installation folder, right click "cataclysm.exe" then click on "Properties";
2. Click on "Compatibility" tab then check the box "Run this program as an administrator" then "Apply";
3. Run the game and go to "Options" and then "Video". On the left, select "(GL) Default OpenGL" and then select any valid resolution on the right;
4. Close the game and open "regedit";
5. Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sierra On-Line\Cataclysm";
6. Double click the key "screenDepth", select Base "Decimal" then change the value to "32";
7. Double click the key "screenHeight", select Base "Decimal" then change the value to to your screen height (1080, for example);
8. Double click the key "screenWidth", select Base "Decimal" then change the value to to your screen width (1920, for example);
9. Close regedit and play the game.

After running the game as Administrator once, close the game, open notepad and copy and paste:

i'm on a serious HW binge right now but I don't know if I'll even get to it. Even with that fix it runs a little iffy.

Not really, but the second option is easier because you just have to create a file, copy and paste those entries in the file, save it as .reg and run it. But this is for 1920x1080 only. If you want to set another resolution, then you have to edit the registry manually (first option).

Also, you can give any name to the .reg file.

I have an issue with Emergence. I did the registry tweaking, so the game starts in fHD. I also renamed the opening videos, so they don't start. But then when the game launches, it always opens in my secondary monitor. Any ideas how to fix it? I want it on my primary monitor.

Hmmmm, did anyone try using DGVoodoo or another DXWrapper of that sort to try to up-rez/up-scale to 1080p?
