hi guys, i'm relatively new in the community, i was wondering how to get the reputation? and if it works for something else? besides the obvious.

It's actually pretty open to abuse, so basically meaningless. Anyway, you get 1 rep each day that you post. You can also get +5 rep for providing the solution to someone's question (as long as they've marked their post as a question and award you the solution).

Rep doesn't get you anything other than a number under your username though.

Basically - ignore it. If ever it had any meaning, it has been long lost. The system is easily exploited, and there are people here who lost hundreds, if not thousands of rep points just because they pissed of some trolls and scammers. It's not as ba now, but still it's a poor indication of anything.

No seriously, the reputation system sadly lost its meaning ages ago, because Gog didn't fight its abuse by shady users.

Just ignore it. I used to have hundreds point for talking to fellow members and joining community games until I won a giveaway and apparently it bothers some trolls so I got down voted by bots and lose it all and even reach negative one hundred in less than a month. This reputation system is simply broken and not worth anyone time

I was at 1200 until I pointed out someone who was trading fake codes.

Other than ability to post links somewhere around 10 rep. Some giveaways also require you to have x rep to participate (or account has to be older than x). Other than that, it's meaningless.

True, I forgot about that, although there's a fairly easy way to get around that.

I wouldn't count that though, as it's not a functionality of the site, and it's totally up to the individual hosting the giveaway, so it can vary widely as to how much rep is required, if any at all.
