steven.penn: Could someone please explain the 'Reputation' system and how does one achieve awards

timppu: First rule of the rep system:
Give a quote from a famous Brad Pitt movie that was cool in the late 90s, but not anymore.

Second rule of the rep system:
Give a quote from a famous Brad Pitt movie that was cool in the late 90s, but not anymore.

Third rule of the rep system:
Give a quote from a famous Brad Pitt movie that was cool in the late 90s, but not anymore.
Mrs Smith, lets get married as Jen is stale.

That movie is far too new, 2005. I was thinking more along the lines of:

"It can't buy happiness?"

(from the movie "Meet Joe Black"). Or something like that.

I see your point.

You earn rep by posting and getting upvoted and earn stars for reaching certain levels of rep, but the system has been abused so badly that it really doesn't matter. I assure you that literally NOBODY cares. There are great people here with low numbers and horrible people with high numbers. Judge people individually for yourself, don't go by some number next to them.
If you want an example of how badly the system is broken, I ran the biggest giveaway (and still do) on the entire forum and was in the negative hundreds for months WHILE the giveaway was on, WHILE getting upvoted for these posts, and without posting much of anywhere else in the forum, just because some scammer with a 10-month grudge against me managed put me on a script to remove 6 of my rep per day. During this whole time, I've been a well-loved member of the community.
Just hang around and be a cool guy and that's all that matters.

Vainamoinen: ...
As GOG officials have been aware of those all encompassing flaws for many, many years now, plans and promises have been made several times to get rid of the reputation system altogether. You can find no less than four wishlist entries in the GOG database that ask the company to do exactly as they've said they'd do. However, the forum software is now so antique and the people who made it probably so not with GOG any more that this evidently simple cut could hurl the whole forum software to hell. So what basically everyone, GOG officials included, is waiting for is an entirely new forum software with no idea who is going to program it. Expect there to be a swift implementation before or in 2077.
...
I swear to the Supreme God of Heavy Metal Almighty that I want this to be a side quest in Cyberpunk 2077.

"Look, we need two things from you: first, find and kill the trolls, and then, find and hire us a decent forum software developer. Do not attempt the second without completing the first."

And then you find the twist, that not all trolls were programmed into the game. So the forums remain broken forever*.

*At least until modders come along and implement the missing content back into the game. :P
Oh shit! I forgot this one! zeo loves it when I post this one, and I think it does a fair job of cutting off anyone disputing the existence if scripts.

"You have no proof, lol."

- Vladimir Putin to 192 governments complaining about hacking attempts from Russia.

Actually, if there were no script, that would be even funnier. It would mean Wakalo and NES actually wasted their time daily logging into multiple alt accounts just for the sake of downvoting those they hate.

Do people actually do that? I thought only these things happen in cheesy comic books. -_-"

Wakkalo and his friends are probably convinced they live in cheesy comic books. :P Shit, that avatar of his is probably a real photo and I don't doubt he wears that damn costume even when he goes grocery shopping.
Vainamoinen's post got upvoted. That's irony, folks!
