<span class="bold">Ys Origin</span> is the most recent entry into the series, a prequel set 700 years before the events in Ys I & II Chronicles+. posidyn: Yes yes yes yes Ys!
I have been holding off buying from Steam and so very glad I did.

How come there is no awesome soundtrack as part of the freebies?

Thank you GOG!
The OSTs are in .ogg format in each games BGM folder - it's not FLAC, but it still sounds very good. It uses those files in the game to play the BGM btw.
One question. Does this game series allow you to play via mouse, keyboard or both?

bansama: In before people asking for Japanese language support: Don't waste your time. Nihon Falcom will NOT do it. They are convinced that they will not sell the games if they included Japanese. Despite people both in Japan and around the world asking them to provide Japanese language support.
It's such a shame too - I don't see why Falcom would be so adverse to releasing the games in their original languages. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to implement, and might even lead to some more sales. In the end, I'm guessing Falcom is too busy with their newer games to care much about their back catalog when they've pretty much abandoned PC development.
One question what's the deference between Ys I & II Complete, Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys I & II Chronicles+?

I can not recommend Ys: The Oath in Felghana enough, it is seriously a wonderful remake of Ys III and now truly feels like a Ys game I highly you get it if your a fan of Ys

Yes you can use ether, both or a gamepad if you have one. In the case of Ys I & II Chronicles+ I'm just assuming this since I never played that version.

The real reason is more likely the fact that all those games are not designed to be multilanguage. The team that translated it had to do that using the source code (that is not the most clean of the codes) and also expanded some functionality to better work on modern system (like widescreen support). So manteining both version would be a lot of trouble for a slightly better chance of selling more. That said I also would loved to see them available in both languages.
Falcom still sell the original japanese boxed version update to windows 8 support but never went digital, too bad.
Felghana also got one of the most beautiful collectors edition I have ever see. Unfortunately they shifted to console to sell more, they were one of the few company to release jrpg mainly on pc.

Ys I & II Complete is the name of the original PC port from 2001. Ys I & II Chronicles is an updated port made for the PC in Japan in 2009. Ys I & II Chronicles+ is XSEED's English-language version of Chronicles. The "Plus" is due to the fact that XSEED added widescreen support and extra gamepad support in addition to achievements in the "Evil Empire" version.

Ys I & II Complete was a collection of the first 2 ys game rereleased on pc. They are an enhanced version of another remake Ys I & II Eternal, that was a remake of the original console game.
Ys I & II Chronicles was the PSP porting/enhancement of the pc release. It added another selectable versione of the portrait among the other. It was also ported on the original pc version code.
The Ys I & II Chronicles+ is a porting of the improvement of the PSP/PC japanes version translated in english and with new feature like widescree, cloud saves and achievement (steam).

Re: Ys I & II Complete, Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys I & II Chronicles+

From a random gamefaqs thread (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/958945-ys-i-and-ii-chronicles/58372868):
"No, the only difference is the style of the character artwork. Complete is the art from the PC version of the games (Ys I-II Eternal/Complete) and Chronicles is the new art created for the PSP game. The soundtracks are freely selectable in either mode and there are no other graphics changes."

The only reason why this version is called Ys I&II Chronicles+ from my knowledge is that it actually combines both the original PC remake, as well as porting over the PSP exclusive features and then adding support for Widescreen and modern systems. In short, the game available on Steam and here is literally the definitive version of the original two games right now.

Thanks. I prefer the mouse driven versions of games, however, it tends to be somewhat difficult to tell whether or not you can use the mouse to actually play. I try watching the gameplay videos online and can tell if you can use the mouse some of the time but not always. Too bad it doesn't always indicate that fact before you purchase a game or game series. Again. Thank you.
Another reason Japanese PC devs avoid selling Japanese versions overseas is that, honestly, GOG or Steam or Playism or European/North American retail by-mail would provide a better deal than buying in Japan. Because companies like Falcom have for a long time budgeted around low-sales-high-revenue (which means a price hike if you're buying from them or associate distributors), they're afraid that giving domestic customers reason to import will damage business. XSEED gets a cut of the money from these localizations also, and not all of their influx goes to use on Falcom games.
Dang it, GOG!

I bought these games on Steam already because I thought they were never going to come here. You're breaking my heart!
Oh, please, remove the cover for Ys I & II from the game shelf. It's not even the original cover and doesn't suit the game at all. I don't know where did you get that. Even the Origin cover is strange, but at least is in the same mood of the original.
Yes! I knew it was good idea to restrain myself from trying Steam versions. :)

I am definitely going to purchase Ys but not right now because Czech Koruna is artificially overblown at the moment and the difference between 2-3 month old cost and this is significant.

As if the Paradox games weren't enough this week. My poor wallet is gonna take a beating during the weekend.
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for these games to finally show up here. They are pretty much the quintessential Japanese PC classics and definitely deserve a place on GOG. Thank you for bringing these to GOG, XSEED. =)

Though I was expecting the launch discount to be a bit higher (considering they've been available on Steam for a while now), it makes no difference to me. As soon as I have the cash to spare, I'm getting all of them.
