Orkhepaj: where is it 3 times cheaper?:O
avatar
Wolfox: On GOG, base game costs R$ 321.79. Price for the base game is R$ 113.99 on Steam and on the Epic store. So, about a third of the price here on GOG.
Basically they're saying:

"You want the game DRM-Free? Sure, pay for our time making the DRM too."

This is sad. :(

Sorry to hear the news for my foreign friends who're upset about the regional pricing differences. I don't get it, because it's not like NISA is hiding or secretive about the GOG version, like they don't want people to buy from here. They openly advertise their games being available on GOG, and all their new Legend of Heroes games they just announced all have GOG logos clear for everyone to see.

I understand. But this just can't be right.

Are they really expecting people from Brazil to buy their Ultimate Edition for R$ 505,79? Is this a joke? lol

SmollestLight: We checked and the prices for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox are all correct.
That can't possibly be right. The GOG version is almost 3 times more expensive here in Brazil in comparison to the Steam and Epic Store versions. This makes no sense, it must be a mistake.

Should have stayed with XSEED...

Way to go, NISA/Falcom.

Hey, I am a foreigner, and for me the game costs the same in Steam and GOG (59.99€). I guess I am lucky in that respect.

Either way, too pricey for now, I will wait for some sale. In the meantime, I bought a bunch of other Ys games from GOG I didn't have yet, spent over 60€ for them anyway...

Man, I really wanted to buy this game here on GOG, but its 3 times cheaper on Steam and Epic Store here in Brazil. Guess this time I won't be buying this Falcom game on GOG, at least not until it gets a really big discount.

Do you have any explanation from NISA as for why they are charging 3 times more on GOG than on Steam and epic store in Brazil? Why the different treatment?

Indeed! With XSEED, then we never would have been missing Achievements on Ys VIII...which GOG will probably be missing forever, since apparently NISA just doesn't care at all about the fact that they are deliberately treating GOG customers like second-class citizens with that game.

All NIS America games have absurd prices in Brazil, not just this new Ys. Why are these new prices only happening here!?
That site is frustrating and confusing IMO. I recommend the order in the images without considering the numbering, i.e. Origin, I, II, Memories, Oath, V (if it was available, there is a fan translation), VIII, Ark, Seven, IX. That is the in-world timeline order. A number of people seem to prefer I and II before Origin, although if you are like me you may find Origin hard enough to want a break after making it through the first time and come back later for the additional stories.

Each game contains at most two or three brief references to others, so in a way it doesn't make much difference and going in least expensive to most expensive is also fine. The main exception is that Origin takes place in part of the setting of I and II and there are some spoilers whichever order you play them. The next biggest direct tie-in is Ark with V (the game there isn't an official translation of :/ ). Memories gives an overview of what the series is about and in game timeline directly follows II. IIRC, Seven directly follows Ark but I'm not sure if others directly follow other games.

If you don't like Origin (other than the part where you need to repeat the game three times to get the full story, which isn't the case in any other) such as finding it too difficult then avoid Oath and Ark as well that are very similar (however, if you can't damage a boss much that means you missed a weapon upgrade somewhere). I and II are their own thing and IMO II is the better game so keep going if you find I only ok (also I recommend having a walkthrough handy as they both have maze sections).

Also, Xanadu Next is essentially a Ys game and was the prototype of the new style game that (release order) started in the Ys games with Seven, then Memories, VIII, and IX (sounds like IX has some new mechanics as well). The story of Xanadu Next isn't really related other than being the (French) Legend of Ys and only some of the mechanics were used in Ys games, however playing it relatively earlier might be easier than playing it after the games that improve on its mechanics. Similarly, in timeline order Seven appears fairly late but the mechanics are improved in Memories and VIII so that is one reason to consider playing it earlier (maybe leaving VIII until right before IX).

MeowCanuck: Bump-attack - you walk into enemies to kill them: 1 and 2
Napishtim - Zelda-like with jumping: Napishtim, Felghana, Origins
Seven - 3D proportional models with party members: Seven, Celceta, 8, 9
Also you can jump again in VIII and IX and they are fully 3D with arbitrary camera rotation. It sounds like IX has some nice parkour aspects. VIII has some wild optional side quests involving in one case extreme button mashing (might want to factor a new controller into the cost) and in another vast numbers of enemies. Most Ys games have a minimal story for Falcom (though still what other developers might call a "story focused game" :/ ) except for VIII that has a very extensive story.

joveian: Snip
Really comprehensive writeup. Summary:

Story: 1, 2, Origins, Celceta, Felghana, V, Napishtim, 7, 8, 9
Release: 1, 2, Napishtim, Felghana, Origins, 7, Celceta, 8, 9
Gameplay: any order as long as 1, 2, Origins, and Napishtim is saved for the end

Many of us think so
It is one of the worst decisions of falcom, to have gone through Nisa
Even their translations are pitiful, English too (The ones from Exseed were much better, and captured the essence of the situations, and portrayed the characters well)
You would think that the fact that they translate into French is a plus, but the translation is extremely bad, I haven't seen such a bad translation on a game since 1997, with FFVII, and Nisa doesn't seem to care about it

Personally, I started to boycott their games, something I already wanted since YSVIII
Still no response from NISA or any further explanation from GOG in regards to regional pricing. I've got all the other Ys games on here but I won't be waiting who knows how long to see if this will ever get fixed, ultimately it's GOG/CDProjekt's loss if they allow NISA to overcharge customers on their store as we can just buy these games on Steam for a reasonable price.
