Xanadu Next, an exploration-focused retro dungeon crawler, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Though Xanadu Next was originally released in 2005, the PC edition never officially made it outside of Japan. Up until now that is, as XSEED Games' re-release finally brings the classic to modern PCs with full English localization.
Xanadu Next is an exploration-centric RPG from the creators of Ys & Legend of Heroes. With a slew of captivating twists on the formula, you'll explore an interconnected world full of secrets, littered with backstory, and rich progression systems to keep your experience fresh.

In dungeon-crawling jRPG style, Xanadu Next returns – DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until November 9, 4:59 PM GMT.

dtgreene: Has someone tested this release on Wine yet?

(According to WineHQ, the Japanese release doesn't work on Wine (unlike most Falcom releases), but it is possible that something may have changed in the meantime.)

Not working on Wine is actually a dealbreaker for me, as I only use Linux and don't even have Windows installed at all.
It works but the textures are all rainbow colored and that makes the game unplayable.

DonRumata1: Falcom probably forbids XSEED from adding a Japanese language option in order to prevent this release from siphoning sales of their own versions. Neither company talks about or hints at any of this, so I'm just speculating.
No japanese?
Guess I'll take it off my wishlist. >_<
*sigh*
I was actually kinda excited for this release.

Do you, by any chance, have a screenshot?

(Sounds like a rather interesting reason for the game being unplayable.)

I'm guessing it would look something like this: https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=56027

Hi.
If you don't mind. May I ask you if your avatar is from Marathon series?
Few weeks ago I started playing The Marathon Trilogy and your avatar looks like it's logo.

I was actually kinda excited for this release.
The game has no voice acting, so it doesn't matter.
Unless, of course, you were looking forward to Japanese text. :P

Niggles: Time for you to actually buy something from here.
If you give me some money, I'd love to.

And that puts it back on the wishlist. XD
Sorry, made the assumption you were talking about japanese VO like what happened with Gurumin etc.

Yes, the link works.

Wondering why the game glitches in *that* rather colorful manner, rather than in some more mundane way.

From the terminal output, it looks like a shader issue. Lots of GLSL errors and warnings...
How are the savegames set up?

So I'm guessing UseGLSL=disable doesn't have any effect?
