Do whatever you want... in space.

X Gold, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion & X3: Terran War Pack, a series of sandbox space-simulators, are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Look out for the games at up to 75% off in the Classic X Pack during the Big Fall Promo, or grab the games individually at 50% off.

The X games - X Gold, X2: The Thread, X3: Reunion & X3: Terran War Pack - are a series of some of the most ambitious and sophisticated space-roaming simulators ever created. This is no exaggeration.

The universe is a vast, ruthless place, a true final frontier, where the strong and cunning prosper while the weak are eaten up alive without mercy. But do you have the guile and determination to make it?
The X Series are true sandboxes - you are in charge of your destiny from the second you leave the hangar for the first time, until the moment you deem yourself satisfied with your galactic conquest.

Even though the complexity may be overwhelming to newcomers, the rewards are incredible: in the X Series you can do whatever you want. Become a roaming mercenary - go from nimble fighters to hulking destroyers, join one of the many factions in war, build and maintain a massive trading empire from rags to riches, even own your own trading posts and facilities. The possibilities are incredible.

You can now grab the entire series at up to 75% off in the Classic X Pack during the Big Fall Promo!

Trade, Fight, Build, Think in X Gold, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion & X3: Terran War Pack, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

Nymes: Very nice releases, as I was always curious to play this series.
One question: are you allowed to pilot the really big ships in this game? Or is it limited/comparable to Freelancer?
You can fly everything that you see. As I replied to tinyE in another thread: You can even fly the space station transporters (which isn't fun).

edit - I'll just quote my other post here:
They're quite unique... You can fly everything - from a small scout ship, over a carrier, up to a freakin' huge space station transport ship! But flying is only a very small part of X. After a while you'll start to scan asteroids for minerals to build mines on the rich ones. You'll build huge space stations with enormous solar panels to produce energy cells. You'll build all kinds of space factories to build all kinds of stuff, like computer chips, missiles, sattelites, etc. Every station needs different ressources (energy, food, ores, etc.) to produce their goods, so you'll have to build a trading fleet to ship goods from one of your factories to another. But some sectors are very hostile, so you'll have to start to build a military fleet to protect your trading routes. And then there are some very good ships that you can't buy, so you'll have to train some marines and board these ships (needs lots of special equipment and training)! Later, when you have your HQ, you can disassemble these ships to get a blueprint.

X is huge. You can play it as a pirate (steal goods and ships), as a mercenary (get a good fighter and later a capital ship), a merchant, or build a huge enterprise. Start a war against some species and eliminate them if you want. The universe is yours. It's a huge sandbox.

ShadowWulfe: Nice. Never was really able to figure out how to work these games.

real.geizterfahr: Sounds silly, but... Play X:BtF and X2 before you jump into X3 Terran Conflict (or Albion Prelude, which I haven't played yet). X3 is complex and you'll learn new stuff even after 100 hours of gameplay. Knowing the "basics" from the earlier games helps a lot!

IronArcturus: Are these games similar to Wing Commander or Descent? Do they work with an Xbox 360 controller?
avatar
l0rdtr3k: They are very open ended but are very slow on the start and can be rather difficult early on.
Do any of the games come with tutorials?

They come and it has tooltips for hotkeys. But they only scratch the surface of the game.

Thank you GOG!
Aaaand bought! :) Downloading them later today...
It's a nice deal, but to be honest, I have X, X2 and X3 DRM-free on disc, and the X3 standalone expansions on Steam, and I can't keep rebuying games that appear in such a delayed fashion on GOG that I have on Steam just to have them DRM-free.

The only one I'm missing is Rebirth, which I passed on because it was Steam-only and because it was shite. Not sure if it's improved any in the meantime, but that's the one I'd be interested in seeing here.

Always nice to see new classic releases. Fortunately the X games are absolutely not my cup of tea so my wallet is safe. :D
...and another instabuy.

It's about time these showed up here.
Great set of releases! I had missed X3 the first time around and when I grabbed a new flightstick last year it was one of the first games I picked up.

Super excited that others no longer have to track down certain physical disc copies, shaking at the thought the might contain the original DRM (which I actually think the developers were nice enough to patch out a few years ago).
If you plan to buy this and you do not live in the US or in Russia, you might want to know that X2 costs $5.99 in US and $9.99 practically everywhere else (except Russia, etc.). I expect it's a bug, but you might want to wait until it's fixed.

P.S. You can follow updates here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/good_news_price_updates

NICE! Already have them all elsewhere, but I may yet rebuy these at some point.

...and don't any of you be put off by the percieved complexity of the games - yes, they have a massive amount of stuff to learn in them, but you don't HAVE to learn it all - you can pretty much play "freelancer" with the majority of them once you've learned the basics.
