War just came back home.

World in Conflict, a beautiful love-letter to tactics and explosions, is available now on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com

A hail of artillery pierces tanks and grocery stores, as homes, terrified men, and boys burn under sheets of napalm. Retreat? Never. These are your homes - and you've said your goodbyes fifteen seconds ago. A stunning flash engulfs the now radioactive pit formerly known as Jamestown High and for a few seconds there is silence. But the battle rages on, a dozen blocks down, and your attention is needed elsewhere.

World in Conflict is one of a kind, really. It's an RTS that succeeded in becoming both action-oriented and incredibly tactical, easily accessible but challenging, and a beautiful spectacle of war. It wasn't the first to do many of the things that make it brilliant, but the combination of small-scale tactics on huge battlefields, and the sheer destructive force at your fingertips is unlike any other. You're put in control of a small squad of infantry, tanks, air support or artillery - just one part of a larger clash. Dynamic single-player missions will take you through the various roles and locations in every battle, keeping you constantly at peak intensity as you defend the United States from an onslaught of enemy forces - and then execute a counter-attack in the Soviet Assault expansion.

Commander - three minutes until the second nuke is primed.

The bonds of war and terrifying firepower at your fingertips, World in Conflict is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

vicklemos: As someone who has never experienced this one via mp I'll make Konrad's words mine: the singleplayer campaign is one of the best ones I've ever played, followed closely by the R.U.S.E.'s one. So-much-fun.

IronArcturus: R.U.S.E. is another game GOG really needs to get!
Agreed!!!
Wut? 55 votes ONLY?! :(

vicklemos: Dude, speaking of "world" and "rts", since you're a big fan, please, try Worldshift once it gets in here. I mean it.

After World in Conflict this was the rts game I've played the most during the past decade. Ain't trying to bring attention to the fact that this awesome game has only 6 votes on the wishlist (you damn cabrones, vote for it!),no.
It's a solid experience, the closest thing to ParaWorld :)
Never heard of it. But judging from the last linked video the game play seems to be not too hectic and graphics look good. Voted.
Great release! One of the most hectic and beautiful RTS games I've ever played
First of all, thank you GOG and Ubi.
Now, I wonder if the release of a relatively newer Ubisoft game (we also had Anno 1701), means Ubisoft has decided to release their games here, after years of DRM heavy releases. Even if they put a time limit, I am happy with it. Better than nothing. I like Ubisoft but boy does DRM SUCK. Which is why I avoid buying them for the PC and just focus on their console editions.

As for this game in particular, it is a very good RTS game with limited reinforcements and no base building. I played it to finish when it was released and I have to say it was a fun game to play.

vicklemos: It's in the same vein. But I find WiC somehow more immersive. And back then the visuals were far more stunning than the already fantastically looking Act of War.

ne_zavarj: Thanks for the reply .
;)
One of the best RTS ever produced, thanks for bringing it here!

Some people just want to watch the World... in conflict.

:D
Any chance GoG will port the multiplay to Galaxy? That would be awesome. The multiplay/skirmish mode of this game is truly unique. Fast paced without sacrificing tactical depth.
R.U.S.E. presents an UPlay problem. Even on Steam you deal with the bloody thing AND Steam.

But i'm happy to see WiC. It's a vastly underrated RTS.
Cool, more Ubisoft love.

The idea is that GoG persuades UBISoft to remove UPlay from the version they license out to GoG :)

Similar to what i'm hoping will eventually happen to Assassin's creed 2, which i bought on Steam without checking the requirements and is now gathering dust as i flat out refuse to go through 2 separate layers of DRM, OR play on a different store platform than the one i bought the game from.

vicklemos: Wow, part?!
What do you mean? We'll see something like World in Conflict? Today?

(...)

Act of Aggression, TODAY!? :P
avatar
katatonicone: C'mon don't get overexcited ;P No more games for today.
derail!

so, no armello today, i guess? :(

katatonicone: I've got the pleasure to complete this game as part of preparations for today's release. What struck me was the graphics, dynamic gameplay, and really interesting campaing with some cool hand drawn (I think) images between the missions. And honestly, check out the visuals for this 2007 game, just stunning.
I can only imagine it must be a very tough job, especially when you have to take work home.

"Honey, welcome home. We're visiting my mom tonight, ok?"
"Sorry, hun. I had to bring work to finish tonight and will be invading the soviets instead"
I was looking for this game and I was slowly giving up hope. Nowehere to be found except some second-or-third-or-even-fourth-hand copies from random people. And buying ANYTHING released by Ubisoft from secondary market is a recipe for loosing money. But now it's time to win 3rd WW... again!
Thanks GoG.
