War just came back home.

World in Conflict, a beautiful love-letter to tactics and explosions, is available now on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com

A hail of artillery pierces tanks and grocery stores, as homes, terrified men, and boys burn under sheets of napalm. Retreat? Never. These are your homes - and you've said your goodbyes fifteen seconds ago. A stunning flash engulfs the now radioactive pit formerly known as Jamestown High and for a few seconds there is silence. But the battle rages on, a dozen blocks down, and your attention is needed elsewhere.

World in Conflict is one of a kind, really. It's an RTS that succeeded in becoming both action-oriented and incredibly tactical, easily accessible but challenging, and a beautiful spectacle of war. It wasn't the first to do many of the things that make it brilliant, but the combination of small-scale tactics on huge battlefields, and the sheer destructive force at your fingertips is unlike any other. You're put in control of a small squad of infantry, tanks, air support or artillery - just one part of a larger clash. Dynamic single-player missions will take you through the various roles and locations in every battle, keeping you constantly at peak intensity as you defend the United States from an onslaught of enemy forces - and then execute a counter-attack in the Soviet Assault expansion.

Commander - three minutes until the second nuke is primed.

The bonds of war and terrifying firepower at your fingertips, World in Conflict is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com
Nice! A very underrated RTS, pretty good story too

Vythonaut: DEAR UBISOFT,

Please consider making your games DRM-Free sooner. I bought Anno 1404 the moment you released the patch that removed the freaking TAGES. I bought Assasin's Creed the moment i saw it being DRM-Free. I will buy World in Conflict now, as I wanted to play this great game for years but I refrained from buying it due to the DRM it had. There are many more games I would like to buy from you, provided that you'll release them DRM-Free. I hope someone read that.

Greetings,
A customer of yours.
I'm all about DRM-free also. I also want nothing to do with UPlay. I already have one game client that I deal with that can handle any game. I don't care that UPlay and Origin exist, but I do care that games are exclusive to UPlay or Origin.

vicklemos: It's in the same vein. But I find WiC somehow more immersive. And back then the visuals were far more stunning than the already fantastically looking Act of War.
Thanks for the reply .
Played it a long time ago when it came out. The Berlin Wall piece is still on a shelf of mine around here. Good stuff and great game.
Nice release. Wishlisted.

Edit:
There exist a demo for this game.

So, GOG, will there be a Twitch stream of this game? Is it one of the "release" streams set for tomorrow?
I've never heard of this RTS before! Is it similar to C&C Generals or Act of War?

Neither. Its not a RTS. Its a real time tactical game aka RTT. There is no base building or ressource gathering.

The closest it comes is the Wargame: European Escalation from Eugen Systems.

Hmm. Never heard of it but it looks good. Wishlist for now
Don't want to panick anyone, but if I remember correctly, even the WiC demo had some sort of DRM, SecuROM or Tages. I'm searching about it right now & I'll report back.

Does it have a singleplayer skirmish mode of any kind?

Officially no. But you can set up a multiplayer lan game with bots which kind of acts as a skirmish.

Does the game have to detect a LAN, or can everything be done manually? Are there multiple maps to use?
