AKA. IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

Wings of Prey Complete, a massive WWII flight combat sim, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com!

The name might not suggest it, but Wings of Prey Complete is part of the unparalleled IL-2 Sturmovik series - the premiere World War II aerial combat simulation. The large scale battles, an adjustable flight system that strikes the ideal balance between accessibility and realism, and everything else that made the original game the hit it was, it's all here. Wings of Prey Complete introduces plenty of new and exciting content for flight-sim fans - that includes a detailed (and very visual) damage model, hundreds of aircraft flying at once, and over 40 authentic planes to master. While war rages in the skies, a big part of the excitement is in what happens down below: Wings of Prey Complete features unbelievably detailed landscapes, and even more detailed ground support action for that final pinch of immersion.

The package available on GOG.com is complete with bug and compatibility fixes, and all available DLC - a true digital collectors edition.

Feel the wind beneath your wings in Wings of Prey Complete , available now, DRM-free on GOG.com!
For people who buy this game, can you check if it comes unbundled on your game shelf (base game and separate add-on)? This way we can tell if the unbundling is something done only to older titles.

But... I haven't finished IL-2 Sturmovik yet! Why does GOG have so much contempt for my free time?!
I had this game completely out of my radar because of the DRM and all these years i stuck (in a good way!) with IL-2 Sturmovik (plus it's expansions) which i loved it and it is still, my go-to military sim.

How does Wings of Prey compare to IL-2? I care about the mission generator & the flight model mainly; if it is a full fledged, comparable to IL-2, WWII fighter simulation and not an arcade game, i think i've found the replacement for my trusty IL2! After all, look at those shiny graphics!! :D

The unbundling was done before the official unbundling process began with TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Mortal Kombat 1+2+3.

Might want to look at the video, at time 1.06 - 1.12. Looks arcade-y to me. I must emphasise that I've not played it, just going on the video.

I played Wings of Prey and I think in Simulator mode it is something between: not as complex as Il-2 but not that arcadish either.

About mission generator - I don't think it has one, it has just a normal campaign with fixed set of missions.

Will pick this up at some point for sure.

It is more arcade than sim. IL2 is a straight up sim. Wings of Prey and War Thunder are comparable as they are the same company. I've just loaded this game up last week s̶o̶ ̶I̶'̶v̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶e̶d̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶a̶t̶t̶l̶e̶ ̶m̶o̶d̶e̶ ̶y̶e̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶a̶ ̶m̶i̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶b̶u̶i̶l̶d̶e̶r̶ (non GoG) I like the visceral feel when you are in the cockpit. Great sound. The guns and engines feel real and meaty and there is a great selection of planes. Good joystick support and setup. At $9.99 it will not disappoint.

[edit] Battle mode is multiplayer only so there is no mission builder in WoP that I have found.

The game will be streamed on GOG's twitch channel tonight:
8pm GMT / 4pm EDT / 1pm PDT: RELEASE STREAM: Wings of Prey with E__A
Twitch.tv/GOGcom
:-)
Basically it has three different difficulty modes: Arcade, Sim and Realistic. Each of these influences the amount of manual fine-tuning, computer assistance etc. that you will receive. On "Simulation" it should be more or less straight IL-2.

If you are interested join me in stream and we can go through a few of the possible settings together. Obviously I will only do that if there is interest as that deduct from playtime :-).

Oh, DRM, yuplay or what? Just remembering it causes pain. :)

How does WoP compares to Il-2? Il-2 is good, rather deep sim, even if forums are full of people, complaining that previous patch was better, and more realistic. :) WoP feels like Call of duty, compared to ArmA, simplistic, shiny, fast, nor really serious. Since I quite serious simulations several years ago, I can't really describe the differences, but after I completed (okay, nearly completed - game constantly crashed when I was completing last task in Berlin) WoP I had in uninstalled and never got back. Il-2 is still present on my PC and I regularly play it, even if for fun and without joystick/pedal/thruttle.
I wouldn't recommend going to WoP if you are for simulation. But that's me.
No DRM on GoG ;-)

I couldn't stream the video (my home internet connection isn't very good since yesterday - just called the company, they said it's a known problem in my area, they fixing it now...) so i had to ask... Thanks for writing the exact moment as i've been able to view at least those 5-6 seconds! :-)

Just read two reviews about it on simhq.com & avsim.com.

simhq.com - "I'm not going to go through a list of pros and cons here. I think it's clear I liked the simulation and that I recommend it. Does it have some things I wish were better? Sure. Life is not perfect and neither is software. Especially something that has just become available. But, if you have the urge to fly over the fields of Europe, I can't think of anything better than this. The graphics, sounds, and gameplay are outstanding.

avsim.com - "Whereas IL-2 was a very rigorous simulation of the air war, Wings Of Prey is a simplified and streamlined experience, more like a videogame than a simulator. [...] Gameplay is geared more towards arcade play than serious simulation. You won't fly in a straight line for more than a minute before you hit a waypoint, get jumped by enemy fighters, or be called upon to bomb or shoot your foes. [..]Wings Of Prey is a post-modern take on the action of WWII, more of a Hollywood special effects blockbuster than a lesson in the art of war. It's a videogame more than a simulator." Source

Since it isn't a hardcore simulation, I guess this game isn't for me but from what i read, it's a great game nonetheless! :)

ps. I wrote that post a couple of hours before but couldn't post it due to connection problems...

Thanks for replying! I'm sure it won't dissapoint as a game but I'm after simulations so, as I said above, WoP isn't for me! ;-)

RudyLis:
Yeah, it had such a beauty of a DRM!

You're right; WoP isn't for me as I'm in no way trading accurate flight physics for shiny graphics and hollywood action. So, I'm staying with IL2! :-)

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Does anyone know if Logitech flightsticks are supported by this game?
